Help me choose between these two floor plans for our first apartment.

Apologies about the bad picture quality, I took them from the brochure.

We are a family of two and our pet cats getting our first apartment. We have the option between these two in the this society. Both apartments are roughly 1900sqft super built up area, and both have good ventilation and light. We both WFH so one room will be converted into an office space, one will be our master bedroom, and one will be guest bedroom.

I am leaning towards option 1. I like the bigger master bedroom, the bigger second bedroom. I think one balcony in the living room is enough, especially since the master bedroom has a big window.

Husband and my sister prefer the Option 2. The kitchen is bigger and much nicer here, the living room and dining area bigger, and the living room gets cross ventilation. The master bedroom has a balcony. Our cats love to sit in the balcony so it’s ideal for them. Also the plan feels more luxe, IYKWIM. I like all of that. But I don’t like the smaller rooms, especially the smaller master bedroom. It is roughly the size of the bedroom in our current rented apartment and i feel like that’s not very big.

The builder said that I can move any NON-LOAD BEARING WALL and make the bedroom bigger in option 2. I don’t mind making the other adjacent bedroom smaller, but I can’t figure out how to do it, since the one wall is load bearing, and so I don’t know how the person would enter the second bedroom if I moved the middle wall between the two rooms. I don’t mind making the bathroom as an attached bathroom (to the second bedroom) here and not having a common bathroom. To be honest we don’t need three bathrooms, two are good enough. But the building is already constructed so idk if that’s possible anymore.

Here’s my questions:
- which one of these plans is better?
- Can the master bedroom in option 2 comfortably accommodate 3 full size wardrobes, a king side bed with side tables, and a dresser? Or will it be too cramped? Is there any way to make it more space-efficient?
- does having a balcony make the room feel more spacious and bigger?
- is there any way at all to make the master bedroom bigger in option 2? The wall between the dining and master bedroom is load bearing, so can’t move that.

Would be really grateful if you can help me out with this.

And if you’re in Bangalore, and I get an adequate solution, you can do my interiors!

Why does minimalist design work so well in apartments?

Imagine a family moving into a new 2BHK. They have a sofa, dining table, TV unit, wardrobes, beds, kitchen appliances, and obviously they want the house to look good too.

Bt the problem is, the flat is only so big.

If we keep adding colours, patterns, furniture and decorative elements, the house starts feeling packed. Even though nothing is technically taking up too much space, it feels smaller.

That’s where minimal design works really well.

You keep the furniture simple, use a few materials and colours, and hide storage wherever you can. Everything the family needs is still there it just doesn’t feel like everything is fighting for your attention.

The flat hasn’t become bigger.

We’ve just removed the visual clutter that was making it feel smaller.

That’s why we refer minimalism and it wirks so well in apartments

How is the layout?

Its a flat in a G+2 standalone building.
Upper is north direction and left is east.

The living room and temple drawing is a bit messed up temple will be in the east wall facing kitchen

Thanks for any help in advance.

Need help

Not sure if this is the correct sub reddit for this. But please do help me if you can.

I pushed against the door and banged it a few times from the outside due to a situation between me and a flatmate. After around 3-4 pushes and 1-2 bangs against the door, it ended up like this. I called a local carpenter and he said that he'll have to replace the entire door. I asked for an alternative and he mentioned that if he does a temporary fix the door will still be fragile and with normal use also could end up breaking. Buying a new door is most definitely not in my budget. Can somebody please help and suggest me on what I should do.

Is this practical?

My interior has showed this design for the wardrobe in my room. There is more space in the walk in closet but not too much so this is one of the primary wardrobe.

My question is will it look good after implementation?

(This wont be three palla, instead two palla wardrobe. The reference is mainly for the middle space and the slippers space)

What’s one interior feature you thought you needed… but ended up barely using?

I think it’s easy to get carried away by Pinterest, Instagram, and all those beautiful home tours.

Maybe you thought you needed a breakfast counter, or a built-in bar would completely transform your home. And then you actually start living in the house… and realise you barely use half of it. 😭

So, what’s one interior feature you were convinced you needed when designing your home, but barely use now?

And in hindsight, what would you have done instead?

Contemporary Bedroom Interior | SketchUp + D5 Render

Hey everyone! Sharing a bedroom project I recently designed and visualized.

I wanted to play around with the contrast between the traditional damask wallpaper and more contemporary elements like the walnut joinery, rounded furniture, and built-in cabinetry. The main goal was to keep the room warm and comfortable without making it feel too traditional.

I worked on the interior design, material palette, furniture and built-in elements, and then brought everything together in 3D using SketchUp + D5 Render. And for mood board I have used chatgpt go.

Would love to hear what you think — especially about the material choices, composition, and overall feel of the room. Always happy to get some honest feedback and see what I could improve.

I’m currently open to architectural and interior 3D design and visualization commissions.Dm for more

Thanks for taking a look!

Design fees in Bangalore

Hi! For a 3BHK, how much do interior designers typically charge for design fees? Did you pay the design fee separately? If yes, was it a lump sum or charged per sq. ft.?

How do Smart Lighting/Home Automation brands actually sell?

When it comes to smart lighting/home automation in India, it feels like I know only one or two brands like Phillips Hue and Wiz. But there must be many more companies doing well out there.

So where is everyone else actually selling? Is most of this a B2B/project-based industry? or something else.

Do I as a customer would be dependent on my architect for a good brand? Genuinely curious how this industry actually moves product, since it's not obvious from the outside at all.

Need interior designer recommendations in Whitefield, Bangalore

Finalizing interiors for my apartment in Whitefield and want a few more options before I commit. So far I've got quotes from Livspace and Incraft Studio and honestly the gap and vagueness between the two has left me more confused than informed.

Looking for designers/studios around Whitefield who:

  • Give a proper material name, size, measurements etc.
  • Are upfront about material specs (plywood grade, hardware brand, etc.)
  • Actually stick to timelines

Also curious how others here structured payment milestones with their designer — did you negotiate any holdback for after handover, or is "pay before installation" pretty much standard everywhere?

Any recommendations or firms to avoid.
Thanks in advance!

Bachelor with a New flat. Need some urgent help in Pune

Hey guys I am 27M .Coming straight to the point

So the flat is 2 Bhk in baner, Pune. Size is around 950 sq ft. Its a new flat. I am about to get the possession in next month.

So I want to do the interior but currently I am not sure if its the right time. Cuz I am a bachelor and working professional and the flat was booked by my parents for me 3 years ago.

Now the thing I talked to few interior designers and they quote around 20 lakhs. Now my parents are old and they don’t live in pune. So I told them lets do the interior after my marriage cuz that time I will have enough savings plus I will also have time and my partner can also help me with it.

But just for now to be able to live there I need to get basic things done so that I can save up my rent by starting to live in that new flat . So I am confused right now. My parents suggested me to just get kitchen and dry balcony to be done so that it gets functional but I don’t want to do it just for the sake of doing it. Its going to be my future home. I want it to be special.

TLDR: About to get a new flat next month. Don’t want to do complete interior cuz I am bachelor right now and have very less savings with no time . Want to do it after my marriage . Just want to get the kitchen and basic things done for now and rest after my marriage . Is it a good idea?

The mistake you don’t want to discover after spending lakhs on your home.

Ever since I posted about VR, I’ve been getting a lot of responses, so I just wanted to share one more thing. I genuinely feel homeowners should be able to visualise their interiors and make changes in real time, instead of waiting until execution to realise something doesn’t work.
Here’s a video showing how you can change colours, textures, paint finishes and even furniture alignment in real time and see how it looks for yourself.
Being able to experience the space before it’s actually built can completely change the way you make design decisions.

Is this quote correct??

We recently bought a 3 bhk and its our first time getting any interior work done . Our flat is 1179 sqft carpet and he gave me this estimate. I have no prior knowledge but i feel some of the costs are over exaggerated . What do you guys think??

Bule brick interiors

Let's get this perfectly drafted for your post! Since that subreddit tag is for firm reviews, this should work well:
Hey everyone,
I am looking to get some honest reviews on Blue Brick Interiors. If you have worked with them, I'd really appreciate your feedback on their design process, the quality of their materials, and if they finished the project on time. Any thoughts would be super helpful!
