How do Smart Lighting/Home Automation brands actually sell in India?

When it comes to smart lighting/home automation in India, it feels like I know only one or two brands like Phillips Hue and Wiz. But there must be many more companies doing well out there.

So where is everyone else actually selling? Is most of this a B2B/project-based industry? or something else.

Do I as a customer would be dependent on my architect for a good brand? Genuinely curious how this industry actually moves product, since it's not obvious from the outside at all.

Do designers here actually spec "smart" lighting, or is that still a niche client request?

Trying to understand how lighting control actually gets done on real projects in India. When you do cove/strip lighting, are you reaching for app/Alexa-controlled drivers, or just normal drivers 99% of the time? And smart switches client-driven or do you push them? I was just genuinely curious like do you guys look out for some specific brand, or is it what the contractor sources from the market.

Not in the trade, just trying to learn would love to know how this side works?

Thinking of starting a smart lighting business in india, what do you guys think?

I am starting a lighting first tech company, basically focused on making lighting smarter and more usable for modern spaces.

Products will be stuff like smart switches, drivers, LED strip controllers etc, and the whole point is to keep them retrofit friendly so they can go into homes, cafes, salons, boutiques, showrooms without rewiring or breaking walls.

For sales I am thinking of bundling them up and going B2B, mostly reaching out to interior designers, architects, renovation firms etc, basically people who already control the lighting decisions for clients.

Wanted to ask the sub honestly, does this sound like a real business opportunity or is the smart lighting space too saturated in india? would actually love to know if there's demand for something like this.
