What’s your photo-taking process?

It feels like a lot of pictures posted here are “point and shoot” i.e a quick moment that you saw, pointed the camera at and took a photo.

I’m realising there is a lot more to great photos than that. So what do you do in terms of selecting mode, focus, aperture, shutter speed etc before taking a photo?

I’m trying to increase the quality of my own images and just having the camera with me is not necessarily doing it.

What functions have you assigned to f1/f2 buttons?

If any at all, I’m interested what functions you have assigned to the two buttons to make your shooting workflow easier.

SEO Audit Skills

Just curious if anyone has/recommends skills that can scan a website and make SEO recommendations and, ideally, make link building/strategy suggestions off offsite SEO.

Cheers,

Noobie Question: Refreshing libraries

I’ve only just discovered DarkTable and am very excited after months of looking for an editing app that plays nicely with my network storage and isn’t Lightroom.

One thing I am having trouble with is getting the latest images in my libraries.

I tend to store my images on my NAS by year and month and I copy the RAW files over to the NAS and into the relevant folder at the end of each shoot.

In DarkTable, I’ve setup the root folder as a library and sure enough each year shows up as a folder in the library screen. I assumed that the library would update or refresh as new pictures are added to the folders but that doesn’t seem to be the case.

What’s the workaround/process for this or am I doing something wrong?

New additions not showing on Reader homescreen

I’ve got a new phone and downloaded Reader. The Recently Added documents are not showing up on the phone despite the option marked as shown in the menu.

Any thoughts as to why or how this can be fixed?

How do you structure books/libraries?

Noobie here - still getting to grips with some of the basics.

I’m running AudioBookshelf from a Docker container on a NAS. I originally set up a docker/audiobookshelf/audiobooks folder to store all my uploads in.

However, that’s causing an issue when I set up my libraries which are things like Fiction, Science, Self Help etc.

By pointing at the audiobooks folder, every library has the same books in it. However, if I set up a folder and browse to a particular book in that audiobooks folder when setting up a library, then all subsequent uploads are stored as sub folders with in the initial book folder. I’ve gone through the original documentation, but couldn’t find any info on this. So how do you structure your files? Should I store my books by library? In which case, how do I store books that may appear in multiple libraries?

Upgraded and lost all my books

Upgraded for the first time via Docker and all my audio books have disappeared. Have I missed something? They’re still all stored on my NAS - is there a way to bring back all my libraries and books or do I need to ‘upload’ them again?

Thanks in advance

Recommendations for “dumb” phones and networks

The time I’ve been dreading since we first discovered we were pregnant has arrived - our eldest is going to secondary school and we want to get her a phone for while she’s travelling. She will be just about to turn 13 so we’re really not keen on her having a smartphone and access to social media. Equally, the school has a strict phone guide that doesn’t allow cameras or internet access. So a dumb phone seems to be the way to go.

I’ve done a search on the sub and found some really useful threads on dealing with kids and phones generally. But I couldn’t find any suggestions around which dumb phone to get or which network to go with.

Any thoughts/ideas. What did you go with? What works well?
