Top Gun in DBox was better than Maverick in DBox

I took my son to see Top Gun in IMAX last Wednesday, he liked it. He wanted to see Maverick so I took him to see it in DBox on Saturday, he didn't like Maverick, and that's OK. He's five and he's allowed to have opinions. But on the way out of the theater on Saturday he said; "Dad, I'd like to see the first movie again...like we saw this one. I think it'll be better."

So I took him last night. Yeah, seeing Top Gun in DBox was definitely the way to go and I thought it was a much better and cleaner experience than Top Gun: Maverick. It's like they actually put the time in to the DBox experience with this one.

My five-year-old gets to experience Top Gun in a way I never did

I was five when I saw Top Gun for the first time. My grandmother taped it on May 8th, 1989 as part of NBC's Monday Night at the Movies. Top Gun means having the NBC Peacock and WLBZ 2 at random points of the film. Fast forwarding through commercials, and the part where the tape stopped recording during the final battle of the film where Maverick tells Ice to break hard right on the count of 3...it goes from Maverick going "Ice" and then it immediately picks up with "Maverick move there's a MIG on your tail."

God, this frigging nostalgia bait for me. Anyway, we're going to see it tonight at Penn Cinema in IMAX and I'm so stoked. I hope he enjoys it so I can take him to see Maverick on Saturday morning in DBOX.

I was thinking today, I’m 42, divorced, have a decentish job, but still have to supplement with the gig economy to make ends meet. It almost feels like crisis are manufactured to keep us on the subscription model to extract value for the shareholders.

A lot of us are renting because we got screwed in the job markets…the recessions…COVID…corporate greed…endless wars in the Middle East…like when is enough going to be enough?

Then I think about the younger generation and those who are working food service and retail. How in the heck are any of them making it? I was hoping that we’d come to our senses as a country…but it seems like so many millennials are supporting whatever the heck this thing is because they believe they are just a temporarily embarrassed millionaire. I dunno…maybe part of me is pissed that I had awesome plans for my son this summer and now I have to scale back on them because the economy is crap and we need to move closer to his school.

Remember when we were growing up and we were told that if we worked hard, went to college, etc that we would do just fine? That our generation had so much potential. It doesn’t seem like that anymore. Even making six figures a lot of us are still on the struggle bus.

Thanks for reading.

Clearly one of the "Spark Cartel" people as they are known on here shopped my order this afternoon. It wasn't much, just a few odds and ends but I'm stuck working until later and my son wanted some snack items so I paid the extra for Express Shopping. I get the notification that the delivery is here and there is a knock on my door.

I figure I would wait a few minutes because ya know...it's just weird. Except the guy keeps knocking. I finally answer the door and he says; "Hello Sir, your groceries are here. I knocked to ask you to please give me a good review."

Ugh...now on principle I don't want to give you a good review. Would you give him a review? Would you report to Walmart? I'm also a Spark Driver and there is absolutely no way I would do this unhinged level of behavior to a customer because it's frigging unhinged.
