I need advice on a rental scam situation.

An agent showed me a flat that I really liked, so I decided to go ahead and paid a token amount of ₹3,000 to block it. From the very beginning, I clearly told him multiple times that my move-in date would be 1st June, and I even double-checked with him repeatedly if he was okay holding the flat for a month. Every single time, he said yes.

Based on that confirmation, I gave notice at my current place. But today, when I called him to proceed with the rental agreement, he suddenly said he cannot hold the flat for a month and that I need to move in from May itself. Now he’s claiming there was some “confusion.”

This has put me in a really stressful situation because I’ve already planned everything based on his confirmation.

What should I do in this case? Has anyone faced something similar? Is there any way to get my token amount back or take action against such agents?
