I cut my hair because I couldn't handle the pressure anymore (21 M)
I had pretty long hair. Not extremely long, but long enough that I really liked it. My hair looked good on me, and all my friends used to compliment it and tell me how nice it looked. I honestly felt really attached to it, especially because I knew my hair didn't look as good when it was short.
Recently, my mom found out that I was hanging out with some friends who smoke. She also found out about my ear piercing. She got really frustrated and started becoming more strict with me.
As time went on, she kept telling me to cut my hair. At first I tried to ignore it, but she kept bringing it up over and over again. Eventually, we had a huge argument, and I couldn't handle the pressure anymore. I just cut my hair.
The worst part is that even after I cut it, the arguments didn't stop. Now she's also constantly telling me what kind of clothes I should wear, like telling me not to wear baggy jeans. It feels like there's always something about my appearance or the people I hang out with that she has a problem with.
Whenever we fight, I get so angry and overwhelmed that I leave the house and sleep at a friend's place. She absolutely hates when I do that, but honestly, sometimes I just can't stand being at home when she's there. I feel like I need to get away from her just to breathe and calm down.
I don't know if I'm overreacting or if this situation is actually as bad as it feels to me. I understand that my mom is probably worried about me, especially because of the smoking situation, but I also feel like I'm losing control over my own life and appearance.
I really don't know what to do anymore. How would you handle this situation? Am I wrong for feeling this way?
