Last year I started the whole Chevening application process, but while writing my essays I gave up. Even though I'm fairly self-confident and think I fit the initial pitch, I keep wondering whether I'd actually get selected given my current trajectory.

I work at a major company in Brazil and graduated from the best university in the country, but I've never founded an organization, I don't mentor young people, I don't volunteer or anything like that, even though in recent years I've been trying to get involved in that kind of thing. I know I need something like an international master's to reach my goals, but I feel like with Chevening, either you need to have already climbed a huge mountain and be able to show all the hardship you've overcome, or you need an absurdly impressive trajectory to be selected.

Am I overthinking this? Do "normal" people get the scholarship too?

so after years of being the DM for Call of Cthulhu, I’m finally sitting on the player side of the table. We’re playing Tomb of Annihilation (please no spoilers, I know nothing and want to keep it that way) and my best friend is the DM… which would be great except he’s pretty punishing. so yeah, I want to come prepared.

here’s what I’m working with

5.5e, standard array, starting at level 3. I’m locked in on Aasimar Paladin with the Oath of the Noble Genie subclass. the rest of the party is monk + bard + artificer + barbarian/druid

I want to do big damage. not sure exactly what form that takes yet, which is kind of why I’m here. I’ve seen some stuff about the Noble Genie oath and it looks really fun but I honestly don’t know what I’m doing yet. open to hearing what the class can pull off at higher levels too, not just the obvious smite brain.

if anyone can map out levels 3 to 10, feat choices, spell picks, whatever matters, that would be amazing. don’t need it to be perfect, just want to understand the why behind the choices, not just a list of things to grab.

Me formei há 2 anos em Políticas Públicas pela USP e hoje trabalho com relações governamentais no setor privado. Na minha área, mestrado acadêmico costuma ser muito mais valorizado do que mestrado profissional, então comecei a olhar os programas da FFLCH com mais atenção.

Hoje estou em um emprego que considero muito bom e onde tenho aprendido bastante, mas infelizmente não vejo muita abertura para chegar e pedir uma tarde livre toda semana ou alguma redução de jornada.

Tenho pesquisado o mestrado em Ciência Política e fiquei particularmente interessado na trilha de Política Brasileira e Comparada. Pelo que entendi, o programa agora funciona por trilhas e você precisa cumprir um conjunto de disciplinas da trilha e outras de livre escolha.

Minha dúvida é o quão viável isso é para quem trabalha em período integral. Comparando com as grades que encontrei de Ciências Sociais, me parece que Ciência Política tem bem menos oferta de disciplinas no período noturno.

Outra insegurança que eu tenho é em relação ao perfil do programa e dos professores. Todos parecem ser nomes muito consolidados na área. Existe algum preconceito com quem faz o mestrado pensando principalmente em crescimento profissional fora da academia? Não no sentido de não gostar de pesquisa, mas de não ter necessariamente o plano de seguir para doutorado e virar professor.

PS: Sim, eu fiz outro post ontem sobre mais ou menos a mesma coisa, mas quanto mais eu pesquiso mais sem esperança e confuso eu fico

Todos os gerentes com quem já trabalhei ou tive contato têm mestrado. Não que isso seja garantia de alguma coisa, mas é um padrão que vejo se repetir bastante.

Dá pra fazer um mestrado acadêmico trabalhando em período integral? Existe oferta noturna em programas bons ou tudo que presta acontece de manhã e de tarde?
