After a week of moderate use.

Personally I like my CRC Packers more, just because they are so supple right away but these boots aren’t terrible. The look is clean and they turned out to be pretty forgiving by the 4th wear. The rolls are coming in nicely and I hope for more to form in the coming weeks.

I finally felt the dreaded toe guillotine when bending down for a fallen fork yesterday. Literally felt like a table was dropped on my toes. Painful.

Finally, it is here. The Thunder dome!

First time participating and I am pretty excited to see how everything plays out. We all got some pretty cool leathers this year and I can't wait to see them age.

These things feel stiffer than plywood. They literally refused to bend until I warmed them up after a few minutes. I guess that's double stuffed leathers for you.
This will definitely be the harder pair of the two to break in. I'm just happy to finally wear them!

Don’t let the shine on the leather fool you. It’s been anything but sunny here. I currently have a hurricane on top of me with two more on the way. The busiest hurricane season in years lol.

Thank goodness I got into boots when I did. Sneakers and rainy season were a pain before I got into the leather footwear game. No more soggy socks.

The CXL and edge dressing are still holding up mighty fine after all this rain. Can’t wait to break out my two dome pairs in this torrential weather by October.

The weather lately really puts the thunder in the patina thunder dome, eh?

Finally got some proper laces that I think mesh well with the color pallet of the boot. DS Carrot and the cream Dr Sole really make this pair pop with color. So nice I almost don’t even want to wear it. I can’t imagine six months being enough time to break in this W&C leather, but I hope my legs and feet can handle both this pair and my Cypress Raisin Cherry Packer. I pray the cypress tannage provides me some relief when I rotate between the two pairs.

Been a week or more since my edging post. It seems like the edging has been holding up. Hoping I can really put it to the test come the next hurricane. With how dry the leather felt I ended up lathering the leather with a good coating of Venetian leather balm. I think they turned out alright.

Snapped these when I was waiting in line for my lunch. Moments after receiving my food it began to rain violently. We don’t have fall/winter here, we have hurricanes. The chicken was good, but not as good as the 64 brown DS leather by Seidel. The red tones really shine through when it’s brushed but even without being brushed in these photos it still shows. Definitely a sleeper leather and I’m glad the Labor Day Sale had it as an offering. I’m not too sure if the product photos used reflect the current shade of the leather though.

(I just received my order of matching kilties and they are super red. Much redder than the sales photo used.)

I’m tempted to place an order for a meadow boot before it’s done being offered. Unfortunately I am stuck in which edge color to go with. Both brown and black have the same appeal to me but the beeswax is also super clean. I could really use some outsider input on this. If it helps, it’s gonna have a packer heel with the western sole.

Forgot to take actual pictures of the actual market but the boots are the main point I guess. The 64 DS has somehow gotten even glossier after a month of yard work and hurricane season. Definitely in my top 3 for my current rotation.

The Thurman is still super comfortable. Literally my favorite last in terms of comfort but I still only have one pair built with it. That’s gotta change.

They have finally arrived! I ordered the heritage suspenders on day one of it going live. They are in Cypress Moc and fit like a charm. The sizing video was actually pretty useful and straightforward. They feel great and are my first experience with suspenders. It’ll take some time getting use but I am definitely looking forward to the whole experience. The cypress moc has a ton of character and will match greatly with a lot of my brown pairs.

My only gripe with this whole thing is that I ordered the combo (Button + belt) but only received the belt attachment. I hope I can get the button attachments (without that lead time) since I already waited 8 weeks and added buttons to a ton of my pants in anticipation for this.

I also order the Nicks x Heat Straps Patriot Type 1 jacket and man it is a lot of jacket. Definitely something I will be owning for a long, long time. A very happy purchase!

TL;DR

Great jacket and suspenders but missing the button fasteners for my suspenders ☹️

As the title of the post says, it has been 8 months with these buggers. They were once the hardest pair of Nicks I have ever owned. The leather literally refused to give at first, even now it still maintains that boardy inflexibility. With the “recent” arrival of my DS carrot LTTs I think the walnut has been dethroned in terms of rigidity.

So far this is my only 11067 lasted boot. I do hope to order another one in the future in a shorter height. From a purely aesthetic pov, I think the bulbous toe of the 67 last works well with a shorter shaft. It feels balanced to me.

Did anyone receive their suspenders yet?

My first MTO journey has reached its end. 25 weeks and 4 days. I ordered these bad boys way back in February and man would I say the wait was worth it.

I love the LTT patterns and I love the packer lasts. Initially, this boot started off with the exact same build as my GPWF LTTs but after my contender trip to the shop, I decided a few changes had to be made.

Sadly though, the Dr sole heel cap is not compatible with the beautiful packer heel I have come to love. I had to sacrifice the very thing that made it a “packer”. So I switched the heel profile to a dogger in hopes of retaining something similar to the packer. The heel in the photos looks more like a lineman heel without the extra heel stack. It’s not what I was expecting but it’s honestly not bad. I would have killed for the extra leather in the heel though, the extra lift is something I’ve gotten used to.

Despite this change, and now having it in hand. I do not regret my choice of sole change. The cream Dr sole half sole is a nice change of pace when I look at my entire collection. It compliments the deep, rich carrot color 🥕 and the beeswax edge. The white upper stitching was a last minute change that I am glad to have made. IMO, it ties everything together.

These are my first Wickett and Craig DS boots and my first time with a true 5332 semi pointed lasted boot. My green LTT packers were actually lasted on a built-out last. I noticed the difference immediately as the toe shapes look drastically different.

Some of the finishing details look a bit rough compared to my previous orders (the sanding on the edge and heel).

It is going to be so hard not to wear these bad boys till October. I can hardly wait.

For those that know and those that don’t follow Hermann Oak on instagram: this is the rose. I am stoked for it. I’ve been needing a bold color in my line up of browns.

Does anybody know when the leather will be offered for boots? I want to round out my CRC collection (wallet, belt, boot, etc).

It has been one month with my first pair of Nicks tankers. They are certainly a beefier boot compared to the tankers I once wore way back when. My brother in law gave me his extra pair from his time at boot camp when I was still in high school, so this TankerPro is not my first experience with the tanker style of boots. It’s almost nostalgic.

The 55 last + dogger heel + Lug sole makes the boot imo. Though the Thurman55 would’ve been ideal, the classic 55 is simply a fantastic last. Also, I just wanted to bring attention to the heel counter. None of my other boots have this type of heel counter shape, I quite dig it. Does anybody know if this is the heritage or Packer heel counter?

The ember waxed flesh is beautifully simple, it has a peanut buttery vibe and color to me. As for the patina development, not much has changed. Maybe a scratch or two but nothing major. To be fair, it has been super hot here lately and the beach has had my full attention for the better part of the month.

I hope to break it in further in the coming months. I can’t wait to develop those tanker rolls I see every now and then on this sub.

It’s been nearly a month with this pair of Stationmasters and the break-in process has been like nothing else. That is to say it’s been quite the easy break in. I’m not really fond of moderate heels but this is my first actual time trying it out. The 1925 last does not disappoint, love the centered toe and how sleek it is. Even though it is missing that arch support that I have gotten used to with my other pairs, it is still quite a good last. Definitely will be looking into making a dress boot with it in the future.

Typically you’d find most of the scuffs and scratches on the vamp of the boot. Whilst there are some scuffs on the vamp, the shaft has taken the brunt of the wear. I can thank the 4th of July for that. Sharp volcanic rock does not show leather mercy.

Some notes to myself and all those visiting the islands: lava rock is sharp, watch where you step, relax and have fun.

I saw somebody was looking into doing their own waxed flesh job. I haven’t posted these in a while, so I might as well show them after a good cleaning and a new coat of VLB.

The leather is 64 brown smooth over roughout. I achieved this look mainly with VLB. I did use Saphir pate de luxe half a year ago but I stopped using it due to it cracking at the rolls and creases of the boot. The only area I apply the saphir to is the heel cap. With tons of brushing, waiting a good amount of time between coats, then brushing again, you too can achieve this super shiny look.

I rubbed a bit of neutral Pate de luxe on the heels to make them shiny. Not too bad but not as good as the ones I’ve seen on this sub.
