Please forgive the non-boot post...

This sweet girl, Nugget, turned 13 today. That's pretty old for a chocolate lab.

She has one kidney, copper storage disease (we are managing it well) and arthritis.

Over the past couple of years we came close to losing her a few times. But thank God she keeps trucking.

Posting this because I dig the people in this community and want to share something in our life (wife and me) that is very important and special.

(I did make sure to put a pair of boots in the photo array)

PSA: Dont Sleep On Color 8 Cypress.

With the announcement of the Odds and Ends sale Nicks is currently running I feel an obligation to remind everybody to check out Color 8 Cypess.

At the time I purchased these, beloved Color 8 CXL had just ceased to be an offering but once Shuyler and Rebecca showed off the venerable Color 8 Cypress I knew it would fill my burgundy slot.

Cypress to this day is my all time favorite tannage I've tried this far. Retaining all of the pro's from dublin and building upon them in the process.

Very much aniline, the waxy surface polishes nicely over time revealing endless depth in both color and character.

The stretch factor infamously known in the Dublin tannage is almost nonexistent. The combination chrome tannage keeps things nice and tight.

Color 8 is one of the most famous leathers coming out of Horween's but sadly it is overlooked more than one thinks.

I look forward to seeing the final Color 8 Cypress builds. These have been such a pleasure to experience life with. 🫡✨️🥾

Specs: Robert, MTO - Color 8 Cypress - Thurman 55 Last - 8 Inch - Rolled Top - Pull Loop - Antique Hooks and Eyes - Soft Toe - Classic Dogger Heel - Beeswax Edge - Vibram VBar Half-Sole - Generation Laces, 72 Inch Navy.

Burgundy and Blue Choices...🤔

Looking to purchase a burgundy color. Which of these would you choose, and why? Cypress Cherry, Cypress #8, or Shackleton #8?

In addition, which blue would you choose? CXL Pacific, Cypress Pacific, Dublin Cobalt? Is the Dublin Cobalt still in the works or was it canceled?

Shackleton Tobacco was meant to be my first repeat leather.

Before my discovery and love of all things Chromepak, Shackleton was my favorite thing going. I got my original Shackleton Tobacco's and was obsessed. Well today, I've FINALLY gotten my second pair. I really wanted an Americana or a Charley, but no toe caps. That's ok!! My original pair was on the 55 last, so this pair had to be on the HNW, of course. So as I do, a Falcon it was. The Tobacco Falcon is now officially in the queue.

So here are my thoughts on this acquisition Shackleton is basically waterproof CXL. I don't exactly what they add to make it so, but my original pair handle rain better than any other boot. Plus, this is my wife's favorite leather outside of Moroccan Blue. She has always maintained that since my Nick's collection started.

If anyone is on the fence, Shackleton in any color is an incredible leather. There is very little break in, it fights water incredibly well, and ages spectacularly well. There is no telling if it'll ever come back, so if you ever considered it, I recommend getting any of the options.

The original pair is in the pictures. They're pretty perfect.

First Pair of Packers

12EE, 1964 tan rough out, beeswax edge.

Found these on the 2nds page.

This is the tallest heel and highest arch I've ever worn. Very different feel but not bad. And I know my foot will mold to the foot bed over time.

NBD! Predator Natural Roughout

I'm very excited to see how these turned out, I love the shape of the 1925 last. I'm only surprised that I went from a 9D HNW that squeezes my foot a bit too much to an 8.5EE 1925 thinking I would have a bunch more toe space, but they are actually still a bit tight. They will be very comfortable after break in though.

I decided to enter them into the Patina Thunder some this year so I'll have to wait a bit to wear them, looking forward to it! Thanks Nicks!

Then they go back in the box.

New boot goofin

Just took these out for their first field day. I work in headwater stream restoration and manage a lot of 500+ acre sites in steep and muddy terrain, and spend a fair amount of time in shallow (1-4 inch deep water). I'm thrilled with them so far. I am however looking back and wondering whether I should've gotten something with the v100 lugs instead of the mini lugs. And also out of curiosity, what is the difference in the ranger heritage and the ranger HD besides the increased price of the HD? Probably something obvious. Anyway, thanks!

more than a year's wait at this point

update: solved. thanks

the first pair i got sent had manufacturing problems. no big deal, warranty claim. they're out of my initial leather, no big deal, have to battle a little with customer service because i don't want two tone boots. end up paying more because of the leather choice and because they now offer a relief cut even though i initially asked if i could have this done (no relief cut option at the time). fine, whatever. currently a couple months into the remanfacture process and i get told i can't shorten the height of the boot by an inch because of policy or whatever. i don't really want to throw customer service under the bus or anything, they've been genuinely helpful and they're just following rules.

it just feels completely absurd. they’re building the whole boot from the ground up anyway. changing a pattern piece isn’t some monumental redesign, it’s one less inch of leather using a different clicking die. it feels pretty arbitrary while i’m just sitting here over a year deep, no boots, out a thousand bucks and nothing to show for it except for some boots i will eventually receive that i don't even really want

Horween Cypress Raisin Cherry Variation?

The first boot is (I think) my Dome build from the Boots on the Line post this week: Cypress Raisin Cherry with a wingtip, etc. The second picture is of u/Few-Movie2373's beautiful pair he posted about a week ago in the same leather. Mine look significantly lighter. Do you think this is an artifact of the lighting, or do you think there may be this much variation in the Raisin Cherry hides? I'll find out myself in a few weeks, of course, but the apparent deeper richness of u/Few-Movie2373's pair is what I have been hoping for.

Thanks you Nicks!

I mean... its not a Tanker (which is what I really wanted Shackleton #8 for) but... Its better than NO Shack 8!

So I'm ending the hoping and wishing and getting right to the having and wearing!

Hidden Lake Trail - Glacier National Park

I took my pair of nicks on a Hike today. These boots are the Marshall tactical boot in HNW Last. They are Weathershield black leather. Basically the same build as the Ridgeline but Blacked out with tactical heel.

These did phenomenal. So much support underfoot, this boot really gives you a nice platform with flexibility. The 6" height allowed me to run back down the last part of the hill but didn't have as much ankle support. The outsole is the nitrile sierra sole, it did great, better than I expected on the rocks once I really dug in. Not as grippy as the fire and ice force 360 sole. I think the change to that compound will really make this boot much more rounded.

I walked through about 100 yds of water no deeper than the boot and kept dry feet. It was absolutely amazing. These will be my go to boots for any hike that has extensive water crossings.

I felt sure of foot for the whole 6 mile 1400 ft elevation trip. I really liked the way the HNW last locked my foot into place in these boots. My outer toes were comfortably holding my foot in place in the boot. I wasn't real sure about this last because I have a wide toe ball and like to let the dogs breathe but it really gave great support right where I needed it.

In other news, my second pair of ordered boots hit the change order window! Maxwell in Pacific Cypress! I can't wait to take those on a hike!

Thank you Nicks team for the hard-work and dedication!
