Target Date Fund vs ETF

I’ve been investing in 401Ks for almost 20 years (had a lot of jobs but always rollover) and just realized you can invest in ETFs instead of just a target date fund based on when you want to retire. Thinking of moving my money into some market tracking funds with better returns and a bit more risk since no cash or bonds.

Any opinions on picking your own 401K investments?

Cool FAM / Dark Matter connection

No spoilers, except that I'm posting about it in this group for a reason, but fans of For All Mankind will get a kick out of Season 2 Episode 2 of AppleTV's Dark Matter. It's a bit hard to jump in so I'd at least recommend looking at a recap of season 1 though. It's great sci-fi with great ideas and will tide you over until FAM comes back.

Successful battery replacement

My iPhone SE 3rd generation from 2022 was at 73% which I thought was OK. Thanks to the group for recommending a new battery. Here’s to riding this one until iOS no longer supports it.

Climate change and the future of travel

A recent post about not waiting to travel and the flooding in the China/Nepal border area plus fires everywhere has me rethinking some plans. I’ve done some including solo travel but was planning to retire in about 12 years and do it at least half the time. It also seems like exactly the wrong time to do it though.

What have people noticed changing in the last few years and where do you see travel going in terms of methods and destinations? Is there anything that might get easier or more inviting?

I’m especially regretting not doing more SCUBA diving. Definitely going to take a yearly trip at least right up until retirement.

EDIT: Should have mentioned that my plans would involve as little flying as possible and be centered on slow travel. I do want to visit the occasional landmark but avoid Instagram ready spots etc.
