City Councillors say AI is inevitable and a data center ban is impossible. Speaker says this is dictatorship.

Speakers at this week’s Greensboro City Council meeting asked for more than a moratorium on data center construction. In the face of the multitudinous threats that data centers pose, many demanded an outright ban.

Luis Medina pushed the issue further, noting what Council’s actions reveal: when capital wants something, it is inevitable; when working people want something, it is impossible.

He observes that what is possible is a matter of power. Ultimately, he suggests all power be moved into the hands of the working class.

Keep Going 🫶🏾

Happy Thursday! I rarely share personal updates here, but I’m overflowing with gratitude today. 🥹
For nearly 8 years, my family has fought alongside my younger brother through his mental health journey; navigating hospital visits, endless evaluations, and a system that often felt impossible to break through. This week, after nearly a decade of uncertainty, he was approved for a program that will help him rebuild social skills, learn technical skills and work toward holding a job long-term. He started Monday. 🥹 His first job in 8 years is finally within reach. We were even able to spend some quality time together on his birthday yesterday; we had our first vivid conversation in nearly 2 years. As his oldest brother, watching him light up with hope again has been one of the proudest moments of my life. Whose cutting onions?
If you’re in a hard season right now, I understand, I am there with you. Just days ago, I nearly threw in the towel myself. I remembered there were two more connections that I made a year ago that I forgot to reach out to, I was hesitant to reach out at first but I am so glad that I did. A single message made all the difference in helping my brother get his life back. Sometimes the breakthrough comes right when you’re ready to stop believing in one. Don’t give up. The light at the end of the tunnel may seem dim at times; but there is a light there nonetheless.

Keep going. 🫶🏾
