NGC slab breakout: my Claudius aureus, RIC 24, Calico 361

The coins for my permanent collection/lifetime hold I take out of the slab.

Here is my most recent addition: a Claudius aureus, which he had struck to honor the Praetorian Guards. The reverse is inscribed IMPER RECEPT" or "The Emperor Received".
As the story goes, the guards found Claudius in the imperial palace hiding behind a curtain, after Caligula was assassinated.

2026 ANA pickup (and crack out). My Augustus aureus, Calico 298 plate coin, RIC I 149a

First off, special thanks to Steve N. who just happened to be in Pittsburgh to visit his kiddo at Pitt Med. I’ve been eyeing this coin for some time, but couldn’t meet on the price (long story). Luckily I kept in touch with the seller

Anyway, without further ado, here she is. As with most of my ancients, the young Emperor Augustus was freed earlier today.

This coin was minted ~18-16 B.C. in present day Spain (Córdoba), then Tarraco/Colonia Patricia.

The market is heating up! This Nero aureus hammered in April 2025 for $9,600. It just hammered tonight at Heritage for $36,600!

Back from grading. NGC graders just phoned this one in or Apmex picked-over their allotment and sold the banged up ones as factory sealed.

I got 8 sealed 2023 RP Libertads as soon as they came out. these things have been in the safe until I sent it in for grading. Sealed, in the capsules, unopened. they all came back 67, 68, and 69. not one 70. what gives?

2023 1 oz RPs submitted for grading! Guess the grades!

Finally got around to doing them. I joined NGC and got a $150 grading voucher. I used that voucher plus $101 to get these 8 coins graded (with Mexico label)

The coins were all in their factory capsule, sealed in the Apmex baggies. I’m hoping for 8 PF70s! Hopefully I gwt them back soon

L5 match. Found provenance going back to 1924 (I think)

I’m 98% confident this is the same coin. prior provenance before this went back only to 1997

Are these 2 coins the same exact coin?

Now I'm wondering...I heard that they used to crop photos back in the day, but even so, I'm not 100% convinced they are the same exact coin.

There's slight protrusion at the 3- 3:15 o'clock mark on the 2017 picture that I don't see in the 1933 picture. When flipped, that protrusion should be at the 8:45 mark.

Source of the BW pic is the Ars Classica 1933 auction, lot 1926

Coin is the Commodus Aureus I posted yesterday that supposedly came from this auction.

Thoughts on this Commodus Aureus. Would the scratch on the obverse bother you?

Curious what your thoughts are on this.

Would you pass on this coin because of the scratch on the obverse? (the scratch is right around the 10 o'clock, by the "L" and going down stopping well before Commodus' chin).

There seems to be a divide when it comes to "details" grade on Ancients, with European collectors not being bothered by it one bit and Americans being more concerned. For me, as long as it's not tooled I'm fine with it as long as there's eye appeal. Thoughts?

Incoming Aureus! Made some trades to make this possible

An addition for my mixed precious metal (Aurei and Denarii) 12 Caesars collection. I’ve always wanted a Nero Aureus, and here he is! I needed to move some coins from my collection (mostly bullion-type coins) but worth it, I believe

Pedigree:

Leu Numismatik, auction 12, lot 1062, 2022, From the collection of Dipl.-Ing. Adrian Lang;

ex Hirsch 279, 8 February 2012, 2310 and

Aufhäuser 13, 7-8 October 1997, 304.

LCS Pick-up today: Otho snd Vespasian Denarii

Left-facing bust of Vespasian and Otho denarii. They had a higher graded Otho but I liked the eye-appeal of this F 5/5, 4/5 better (decent portrait and ”Otho” prominently struck)

Trying to Capture the three-dimensional profile of Hadrian with my iPhone 11

The portrait of Hadrian on this coin is a mini-sculpture. I’m trying to capture how it pops on my iPhone 11.… This choice VF 5/5, 3/5 FS Aureus is better struck/more like-like, I think, than some of my AU and Choice XF 5/5, 4/5 coins!

sorry for the heavy pics...photos are untouched taken with light overhead...not the best photographer here.

Fraudulent Amazon charges on my CC. Amazon can't tell me what was purchased! Can anyone decipher this?

There were numerous charges on my CC for Amazon. Despite having the CC number and Amazon identifiers neither my CC company nor Amazon know what was bought or by whom.

2023 1 oz Reverse Proof Libertads, still in the Apmex sealed bags. Grade them or don’t even bother?

I got these with Apmex credit/cash back awhile back. I don’t really collect silver RP so I’m looking to sell them. what are the chances of these getting PF70s? is it even worth it to send it in or sell as-is? finally, what are they going for? EBay prices are all over the place
