Disposing a tick I took off my dog

I was late getting her Pet Armor Plus applied this month (I’ve set a new reminder in my phone so it won’t happen again). I found a medium-ish tick on her neck tonight and luckily I had those twisty tiny crow bar looking tick removal things in the same drawer as the Pet Armor, so I was able to get it off with little fuss. I wrapped the tick in a paper towel and sealed it into a ziplock bag after I poured about 1/8 cup of isopropyl alcohol into bag. I made sure I removed as much air as I could and triple checked the seal. Was that enough to kill it/ make sure it dies without escaping and laying eggs?? I’m really squeamish about swishing or burning live things, so I’m really hoping this was enough

Suggestions for how to cook a beef sirloin fillet steak

I don’t ever cook any kind of steak other than thin sliced breakfast steaks, so I’m kinda clueless here. I got the meat at a good price as a manager’s special, so I splurged and got it. Now I don’t know how to cook it…. Should I season it with salt & pepper, sear it & cook it to medium rare (I’d have to figure that part out too, plus it’d be a regular pan, I don’t have cast iron), or should I just make kabobs in my Ninja 5-in-1 Foodie Grill? (I don’t have an outdoor grill). Do I need to do anything special to the meat beforehand — i.e. marinate, let sit at room temperature, pat dry, etc? I really don’t want to ruin a good piece of meat— help!

Got my Febu!

I was so excited for it to get here today that I pre-loaded my washer with a load of darks last night. As soon as the electricity rates go off-peak tonight, it’s on! (Don’t worry, Biz. I’ll still use you for all the whites and lights. I love you just as much as I always have.)

ETA— the cute little wooden scoop included inside the bag?? I love it so much 😍‼️‼️

Air fry your broccoli stalks!

I’ve always liked broccoli stalks, even as a kid, so I’ve never been one to throw them out. But I saw on YouTube how you can air fry broccoli (didn’t really work for me, but I probably just did it wrong somehow), and on another short they said to peel the stalks, slice them up into sticks, add olive oil & sprinkle on some spices (I used onion & garlic powders, paprika, Adobo and Accent) and cook in the air fryer. I was already using my ninja foodi to grill up a sausage for lunch, so I just put them in alongside the sausage and grilled for 10 mins on low. The broccoli sticks were 100x better than the broccoli, I was so happy I saved them. Definitely doing this every time I buy broccoli from now on.

Pork shoulder was $1.29/lb! Saved so much today, it’s a mood boost 😊

Got lots of BOGOs, too. Satisfying shopping trip. That Boston Butt is going to feed me for so many meals— sandwiches, tacos, burrito bowls (looking forward to those the most). I’m looking forward to planning out my slow cooker schedule! Good day today.

Cost of making a homemade Subway tuna sub

I just made this at home after looking up how to replicate their tuna (it’s basically just equal portions of tuna and mayo, who knew?) and it was SO GOOD. Mmmmm, I’m still thinking about it 😋 Curious about how much money I saved, I broke it down:

•On 1 wheat bolillo ($2.46/6) = $0.41
•3 slices Roma tomato (ea. Tomato @ $0.32) = $0.15
•Lettuce ($2.28/8)  = $0.29
•Red onion slices (ea. Onion @ $1.20/6 portions) = $0.20
•Pepperoncini slices (1 jar @ $1.97, 12 servings) = $0.16
•Slice of Swiss cheese (1 pack of 12 slices @ $1.67) = $0.14
•Splash of olive oil & red vinegar (total guess) = $0.10
•Can of Tuna (on sale) = $1.00
•5 oz mayonnaise (30 oz jar @ $3.97) = $0.66

Total for sandwich: $3.11

Plus, I added:
•serving of Cool Ranch Doritos ($2.25 bag bought on BOGO, guessing 5 servings/bag portions) = $0.45
•16 oz pop ($1.00 generic 2 liter/4) = $0.25

TOTAL for “meal deal”
$3.81
Compare to 6” SANDWICH ONLY @ subway for $7.39

I’ll be doing this again, probably tomorrow 😁

Air Fryer Meatloaf & Roasted Potatoes for Two

OMG, I just made this after watching a video from Simply Mamá Cooks
**(I posted the recipe in the comments.)** It smelled so good that I forgot to take a photo before I dug right in, so the photo is as I was putting the half I didn’t eat away.

To say I was thrilled is an understatement—this was so F’ing GOOD. I used the meatloaf sauce from one of her other meatloaf videos **(from 2024, I think— That sauce is ANOTHER keeper, I’m probably going to use it for everything instead of ketchup or bbq from now on lol).** I had to take my potatoes out of the air fryer about 20 minutes early, but that’s just specific to my air fryer. Recipe in comments!

ISO zucchini boats recipe from 80’s

My mom used to make it, and sadly she passed away a long time ago before I could learn how to make it. All I remember is that the filling had crushed saltines, shredded cheddar cheese and maybe grated Parmesan, diced tomatoes and was mixed with the insides of the zucchini. No meat. Is this ringing any bells for anyone? I really want to make it again!!!!

Thank you! I have no idea where on Reddit I saw it, but just a little while ago as I was adding finishing touches to a big pot of frijoles i had just finished cooking in the crockpot, I remembered reading somewhere about adding 1-2 tbsp of white vinegar to the beans. These beans were already delicious, but I could see how white vinegar would just add a little something special. So after I chopped in some cilantro, I added a tbsp of the white vinegar and stirred, then tasted. Whoa. I could taste they had been brightened up, and I decided they could use another tablespoon. That did it. I then processed half of that pot into refried beans and got the rest packed for the refrigerator. Now I’m excited for all the easy meals I have ready for the next few days. Thanks again, redditor, whoever you are! I’ve already edited my frijoles recipe 😋
