UX/UI designer (6 YOE) got laid off — would really appreciate portfolio roast

Hey everyone,

I’m a UX/UI designer with ~6 years of experience. I was recently laid off after working at the same company for most of my career, and now I’m trying to get back into the market.

Honestly… it’s been tougher than I expected.

Most of my real work is under NDA, so I can’t show the actual projects I’ve worked on. I’ve rebuilt my portfolio using a mix of personal projects, some redacted case studies, and a few conceptual redesigns — but I’m not really sure if I’m positioning myself well or if something feels off.

Would really appreciate some honest feedback on:

  • Overall portfolio / structure
  • Case studies (too shallow? too long? unclear?)
  • How I handled NDA work
  • Anything that might be killing my chances without me realizing

Portfolio: https://www.behance.net/arjenrakipllari

Right now I’m applying but not getting much traction, so I’m trying to figure out if the issue is my portfolio or just the current market (or both).

Be as honest as you want I’d rather fix problems than keep guessing.

Thanks a lot 🙏

Redesigned a premium audio e-commerce site — 4 pages + full checkout flow. Feedback welcome.

Just finished a full web redesign for DAK Electronics, a direct-to-consumer headphone brand. Wanted to share the three things that drove every decision:

The original showed the product three times on the homepage without once showing the price. No button hierarchy — five different CTA styles across four pages. And their best brand line, "Skip the marketplace," was buried at the bottom of the About page where nobody saw it.

The redesign fixes all three, plus rebuilds the community page around an actual card system and adds a full 5-step checkout flow with a persistent order summary sidebar.

Full case study here: https://www.behance.net/gallery/249589449/Skip-the-Marketplace-DAK-Electronics-UXUI-Redesign

Happy to hear what you'd have done differently.

Seeking feedback on my latest Case Study. Laid off 2 months ago and rebuilding my portfolio.

Hi everyone,

I’m currently 2 months into a job search after being laid off, and I’m looking to land a new UI/UX role.

I have a few years of experience in the design industry, but I’ve hit a common roadblock: almost all of my professional work is under strict NDA. Since I can't show those projects in my public portfolio, I’ve been working hard on a deep-dive case study to showcase my current process, logic, and visual execution.

I just finished the Calorly case study, which covers the end-to-end flow from onboarding to the paywall. I really tried to focus on high-fidelity UI and a clean, user-centric narrative.

I would love your feedback on:

  • The UX Flow: Does the onboarding logic feel intuitive?
  • Visual Polish: Is the UI at a "Senior" level?
  • The Case Study Layout: Is it easy to scan, or is it too "walls of text"?

I’m really trying to make sure this is strong enough to get me through the door for interviews. Thanks in advance for any insights or "red flags" you can point out!

6 months after interviewing at Deloitte and my application is still “in progress” — is this normal?

I applied to Deloitte on January 15th, 2025, and my application is still “in progress” almost 6 months later.

I already had 2 interviews, and from what I heard through HR, the feedback was very positive. Every time I follow up, they tell me to wait because a response is coming soon, but this has been going on for months now.

At this point I honestly don’t know if this is normal for Deloitte or if I should just assume the role is frozen/on hold. The position is still active in their system, which makes it even more confusing.

Has anyone here experienced such a long hiring process with Deloitte or another big consulting company? Did you eventually get an offer after waiting this long?

I asked AI to visualize what that actually looks like… and seeing it like this genuinely shocked me.
Almost:
900 packs
~90kg of cigarettes
Thousands saved
Countless cravings ignored
When I was smoking, I never thought about the physical volume of it. Seeing an entire wall made of cigarettes puts it into perspective.
Still get random cravings sometimes, but there’s no chance I’m going back.
If you quit recently, keep going. The days stack up way faster than you think.
