Have been on the lookout for a good horizontal 4:3 recently, was waiting for a sale for the 476H till I found out about the Nova.

Keen on the Nova but don't know if the pre-order is worth it vs waiting for reviews and any early issues to be ironed out. RG DS was infamously bad at release although really good now, but that feels more like an anbernic thing?

I have other devices to play so I am not in a big rush. Ideally I would wait till a major AliExpress sale eg 11.11 but don't know about worsening ram shortages and price increases down the line.

What has your pre order experience been for other devices?

Had a PSP when I was young and loved it. Mainly played the GTA games. Never got to mod it at the time. Finally got a Mangmi air X to get back into PSP for nostalgia.

Tried probably 50 games at this point. Mainly tried to aim for PSP exclusives eg. Dead Head Fred, Prinny etc. Somehow can't get any to stick. Hammerin hero is not bad. Prinny is fun but very difficult.

Some games I started then realised have a more updated port eg Crisis core or Ys 7 so decided to pause them. Maybe something janky about some of these early 3D games (eg Death Jr and its camera) and the 1 stick configuration? Feels a shame cause the 16:9 screen for Air X is perfect for PSP but I am mainly playing 4:3 games or GBA on it.

Feels kinda strange given the massive library. Keep going back to usual games I like such as God Hand, Super Mario World, Celeste, Pokémon Unbound, Shinobi on switch Mainly like action, action RPGs, platformers and puzzles.

Vaguely heard about this before somewhere, does it help much with performance?

Got my RG DS recently. Was quite ok with the stock os that shipped. Had some fun with DS, maybe some input latency but nothing too terrible. Poor 3DS performance on a lightweight 2D game (Gunman Clive), which I thought would not be too difficult to run.

Tried rocknix which was a marked improvement for 3DS and less DS latency but just prefer android.

Was gonna install GammaOS lite but realised I need to do the battery disconnect thing since I installed rocknix first.

Tried out anbernic v1.18 using the 1.69 sdtoolkit as per one of the previous posters. I have to say it is really good. Much less input latency. More 2D 3DS games run very well now (Gunman Clive 1 &2, cave story and a few more from the video by retro tech dad) Unlikely for me to go back to rocknix.
