How do I manage this?

I took my hair out after 2 months of cornrows, and I find myself struggling to handle it properly.
I try to put it into 2 sections when going to sleep, but my bonnet doesn’t fit on my head anymore and it is just quite uncomfortable.

I’d like to keep my hair long and not cut it as I like to have long box braids and cornrows. But is there some technique I can apply or things I can buy to a) keep my hair out of my face when I’m working out b) go to sleep without my being everywhere in my face and ears?

How important is vocabulary alone in language learning?

https://preview.redd.it/1txys8q09f9h1.png?width=934&format=png&auto=webp&s=80f2e306b9fc66b4ed03add22fc7f260ce31b864

I was thinking about this the other day. A friend of mine knows a lot of random words in Finnish (TL) , which they claim to make it quite easy to understand most things although they haven't "studied" much of the language. The frustrating part apparently is not being able to participate or produce properly, although one should know the right expressions.

I was thinking that the only way out of this is needing to produce on your own. Maybe writing can be a good proxy for speaking? It probably depends on the language, as i.e. in Finnish it appears to be really easy to communicate the rough idea, but talking properly and mastering the language is really hard.
What do you think? What about other languages?

Croatian vocabulary learning app

Unfortunately Duolingo does not offer Serbo-Croatian, which kinda leaves you with only with Quizlet/Anki which might be really effective are just not that fun to use. The app Langadelie might be a nice addition to everyday or leisurely studying!

What’s does it do:

  • Built-in dictionary showing all word meanings, they sometimes include examples, common phrases, synonyms, grammar forms
  • Extract vocabulary from your materials, leaving you with a vocabulary list with sentence examples, translations as well as handpicked images/gifs added to your lexicon
  • Minigames built by your vocabulary, so play games using your course content, like i.e. cloze filling, image to word matching,...
  • Includes spaced repetition and flashcards, but tries to make it less exhausting to study
  • Import your anki decks and enrich them with example sentences! So you start right where you left off.

I've been using it for some time to learn another language now, and I imagine it could be useful for others who look for an alternative to Anki/Quizlet for vocabulary studies!

Web: https://langadelie.com

It's a hobby/summer project of mine, and I'd love to see if this could be useful to you! It is hard for me to validate Croatian, so if you see anything that is off, pls let me know so I can fix it asap ^^

Uniqlo alternative

Sup, where I'm from there is this beauty of store called Uniqlo, unfortunately it is not present in this beautiful city, so I wanted to ask if any of you have recommendations for Uniqlo alternatives when it comes to affordability and style? I checked out Uff, Fida etc. but couldnt really find the essentials I needed.

1.5 years of learning Finnish, I’ve build a vocab app that works for me

When I began to learn Finnish, I realised that one major piece is vocabulary, especially because it’s not AT ALL related to my mother tongue.
People recommend and swear by Anki. Anki is great but the manual creating of flashcards and the feel make it hard to keep up. Duolingo doesn’t teach me the stuff I’m currently studying in my coursework.

What’s in my app:

  • Built-in dictionary showing all word meanings, they sometimes include examples, common phrases, synonyms, grammar forms
  • Extract vocabulary from your materials, leaving you with a vocabulary list with sentence examples, translations as well as handpicked images/gifs added to your lexicon
  • Minigames build by YOUR vocabulary, so play games using your course content, like i.e. cloze filling, image to word matching,...
  • Includes spaced repetition and flashcards, but tries to make it less exhausting to study
  • Import your anki decks and enrich them with example sentences! So you start right where you left off.

I've been using it for some time now, and it is in a state where it could be useful for others who look for an alternative to Anki/Quizlet for vocabulary studies!

Practicing vocabulary daily without it being boring

I moved to Finland in 2025 for studies, met my partner and in general really enjoyed my time here! I'd love to stay here for the medium to long term also after my studies. Therefore I'm currently going through suomen mestari 2 (great book imo) with a goal to reach B1 level by the end of this year! But at this stage of studies it's quite normal to see a LOT of unknown vocabulary.

I used to study with anki cards, but couldn't really stay consistent with the card creations and practice. I started writing scripts to automate the vocabextraction but learning the vanilla flashcards was still a bit too bland for me...

Those were the main reasons why I created langadelie.com ^^

I wanted to have playful lessons and games tailored to the words I already studied. So that repeating is fun and not too tedious! This is why there are games like easy multiple choice translations, listening and speaking practices, cloze tests, word puzzles and more!

I also wanted to have a simple platform where I can just paste i.e. a cool song or a text out of my course book, and learn vocabulary from the things I see in my everyday life, as this feels more natural than using more generic word lists.

Langadelie is free! The paid feature is the vocabulary extraction and audio generations as it involves local ML models and API calls that are quite pricey. BUT if you have been using anki/quizlet you can upload your deck (and importantly your scheduling information!!), and use langadelie not starting from a completely blank state. It just has to be a .apkg or .csv

Langadelie supports multiple languages but Finnish is what I have been testing personally the most and I am quite happy with how it works! Langadelie started as a side project but it grew to a size, where friends convinced me that others could enjoy it too. This is why I wanted to share it.

I appreciate feedback, as I'm intrigued about, what other fellow language learners think!
