Perms and combs is killing me

Extension 1 student here. I'm only in year 11 I never received any tutoring and my teacher kinda sucks. AI can only get me so far, is it worth keeping? Does it get better from here? I mean I sorta know perms and combs is like the tip of the gay iceberg but like I dunno, even like 'further graphs' etc was already giving me aids. Does year 12 get better :(

Topics like further trig, polynomials and vectors (we did the year 12 chapter early for some reason) I really enjoyed though. I also haven't started binomial theorm.

This is honestly already burning me out. And im not even half-way through the chapter.

Is it worth doing extension 1 maths without doing extension 2?

Anybody who has done it? What were your thoughts? It seems to take a lot of more time (more than advanced) but I am very hardworking. Is it not worth it unless you're doing extension 2? I do also really like advanced math.

For context I've never gone to tutoring and it's not really my strong suit though I have been doing ok as i've been putting a lot of effort in it.

Edit: I also have no intention of doing any maths related degrees. Also, I already do all 3 sciences and english advanced.

Biology year 11 content carried over to year 12

In year 11 biology what content what modules/content is most carried over to year 12? Like really important, as in I'll really have to concentrate on it? Or is none of it really being carried over

In your yr12 Physics exams, was there more writing/theory or maths (NSW)

And what was most hardest/ what would u lose marks to the most. the writing or the math.

Is doing the challenge questions in advanced cambridge useful for exams?

I recently switched to the adv book even tho i do ext1 since im falling behind on adv so i recently have just been using the adv book since they are much more straightforward questions and since i'm studying for advanced shouldn't doing the adv book be ok? instead of doing the advanced exercises in the extension book? (they add way more questions). In the ext book its very obvious not to do the enrichment since its obv harder but adv challenge don't seem as bad? but do they come in exams? cuz i always find the advanced exams are always very straightforward. sorry for the yap.

My youtube channel is so dead...

I put a lot of effort in my videos and find them engaging (at least for me). Yet with the amount of effort I have put in I only have 130 subscribers. Can anyone give me any advice? Like niche tactics etc to get my views/subs higher? Am I doing something wrong?

Channel is called 'Moe The Magpie' I don't want like any free subs just want advice

For those who have done physics in year 12 in NSW what topics from year 11 carried over most towards year 12?

What specific topics did you find most useful for year 12. Like e.g even though waves in mod 3 technically gets carried over to like module 7 nature of light ppl say it isn't 'really' useful or important it's more like just knowing the foundation but there isn't much 'usefulness' in terms of the content you learn.

Is maths extension 1 worth it? (part 3)

Ive been looking at the dymocks atar calculator and it seems like even a 90 in maths ext1 doesn't even become higher than like an e.g 94 in bio? considering how hard ext1 is idk if i should keep it like sure the scaling is good but i thought it'd be way higher than that. 94 in bio is way easier than like e.g a 91 in math ext1. I feel like it might be wrong tho but like e.g the raw marks database says 88.57 only goes to like a 96? so if im going for a 99+ i needa get like 94 etc?

Help with doing 14 units in year 12.

guys im doin 13 units currently and am planning to do 14 units in year 12 (cuz i want to also do science extension cuz it seems interesting) im doing math adv, math ext1, eng adv, chem, bio, phys and indo beginners obv i dont wanna be doing all 14 for my hsc but so far im doing good in all of them (but probs weakest in physics and math ext1 tho i think i can def improve in these) i was thinking maybe after the first assesment task wtv subjects im not rank top 10 in i drop and i keep doing this throughout assesments (whever i drop out of top 10) till i only have 10 units? and if like im top 10 for everything (highly unlikely) i keep all? or will this lead to burnout?

Has literally anyone done science extension

I have questions but it seems like nobody has ever done this subject only 'plans' to.

I dedicated an entire day for maths today and finished 2 exercises.... plus i skipped all beginning questions + enrichment. like what am i doing with my life. also im hungry

I am considering Science extension

Has anyone done the course? Isn't it just the major research report plus an exam worth 30% at the end? Did u find the marking subjective or the content hard? Also is there any internal exams that come with it and if so, were they all just skill based or was there content (I hate skill based stuff cuz its harder to prep for). Also is the research report like really hard to do well in?
Thanks for helping.

English advanced is so stupid

can someone explain why shakespeare is still important? Like even when you're analysing his plays u get generic findings e.g 'leaders can manipulate'. Anyone else hate english and what got u thru it during HSC?

Was memorising generic essays the go-to?

Should I drop maths extension 1 (Part 2)

Im still in year 11 and go to quite a decent maths school (parramatta high) its like rank 50 in state. However im always performing slightly below average, only when I reeaaally lock in then can I get like above average or higher, and i feel compared to my peers the amount of effort i put relative to marks is way higher. I've never gone to tutoring. I feel like maths advanced is slightly too easy but maths extension 1 slightly too hard. Does extension 1 differ much in terms of advanced (is it just more difficult) or is it also like way more creative and less obvious in that way kinda making it harder to prepare for cuz i suck when it comes to all that sneaky maths stuff.

For instance i can literally NEVER do the enrichment questions at all in the extension textbook (for extension exercises only and a few advanced) without the aid of AI cuz even when I know the conetnt itself i struggle with like using it in 'weird' or 'creative' approaches like what enrichment encourages.

Should I drop extension 1 maths?

I am quite strong at maths (at least advanced) and I can work hard. Though I have never been to tutoring and have been recently finding extension math like kind of annoying especially when I can't understand something and AI, textbook etc can't seem to explain it in an understandable way. I don't really enjoy maths when it's not very like straight forward like I don't mind like 3D trig etc but I don't like when it's like very 'creative' in the sense I like it more when its more like straight forward and I can fully kind of 'memorise' my way through it (e.g memorising kinda every type of question possible) though people are saying there is a massive variation in questions and that you just mainly must have a 'logical thinking' which I hate. I dont know since extension can scale super high and I arent doing that bad so far (tho weve only done polynomials, further trig and further graphs).

Overall what should i do? anybody previously thats done extension, do you really need a passion for it, or can u simply just push your way through. i dont mind maths but dont particularly 'enjoy' it.

What were the things u guys lost marks for in yr 12 physics? during like exams etc

  1. silly mistakes? (if so, is it more numeric or just dumb stuff in general)

  2. Random things u can explain? (like when explaining things u dont like use a key word, or just dont mention smth)

  3. Unfamiliar scenarios? (u know the content but its like given in weird stuff)

  4. u simply just dont know (and if so, why?)

i wanna know this so i can decide whether to drop pls help and thanks!

Help with whether I should drop physics

Hey everyone,

I’m aiming for a 99+ ATAR and trying to finalize my units. I am 100% doing Science Extension alongside Bio and Chem, but I’m having a massive dilemma over whether to keep or drop Physics.

My Dilemma:

  • My Strengths: I have a really strong memory and love structured, precise explanations. I smash Biology because the exam structure feels predictable—if you know the theory and marking criteria inside out, it’s hard to make "silly mistakes."
  • The Physics Problem: I understand the concepts, but I keep getting destroyed by silly calculation errors. It feels like every test throws random, unpredictable scenarios where you just have to be "natively good" at problem-solving on the spot, rather than relying on how much you prepped.
  • The Indonesian Risk: I’m also doing Indonesian Beginners. I know I can get a top raw mark because of my memorization skills, but the state cohort is tiny (around 30 people). I’m keeping Physics right now as a safety net because I'm terrified of Indo's volatile scaling.

My Questions:

  1. Compared to Year 11, is Year 12 Physics more theory-based or skill-based? Year 11 feels like a lot of application and mathematical "gotcha" questions. Does Year 12 pivot more towards deep explanations, models, and writing (which would suit a Bio-style brain), or does it stay heavily calculation/skill-focused?
  2. Can you make "silly mistakes" in Year 12 Physics extended responses? If the back half of the course relies more on explaining concepts, is it easier to lock in high marks through pure preparation compared to the math-heavy modules?
  3. Is keeping Physics as a "scaling safety net" worth the stress? If I'm already aiming for a 99+ and doing Math Adv, Eng Adv, Bio, Chem, Sci Ext, and Indo, should I just drop Physics and throw all my energy into perfecting my other subjects?

Appreciate any advice from anyone. im so desperate i asked AI to make this post more eye-friendly.
