Day 31 of my collection

Started my collection last month, quite happy with the progress so far.

Found a few great sellers locally that seem to stock quick a lot of early 2000s which is my sweetspot.

Decided to do some custom spines to bring it all together nicely. I present, the Botha collection. All the the films I feel are worth preserving lol (obv inspired by criterion, we don't get those locally). Still going to build a shelf with lighting etc.

Just about R1600 ($100) spent on my favourites so far. A few special editions and a big set (40ish dvds) of DC animated collection. Will post those up soon as well.

Me for 95.8% of Disclosure day

We ended up here, after these bangers:

- War of the worlds (2005)

- ET the extra-terrestrial (1982)

- Close encounters of the third kind (1977)

What an absolute shame.

As always, Emily Blunt was great.

Every other aspect of this was dogwater:

- Pacing

- Visuals

- Dialogue

- Mystery

This absolute legend turns 71 today

Whats your favourite perfomance for Willem Dafoe?

My all time favourite is The Lighthouse

That movie will always stay firmly in my top 4. 🖤

Happy Birthday Robin Williams 💔

A true generational talent and my all time comfort watch in anything he was a part of.

He had an absolute gift that brought joy to people in film and in life. A very rare superstar that stayed humble, empathetic and had time for anyone.

Nolan nails horror

I've just finished my watch of The Odyssey.

It's just about everything I expected and hoped it would be.

Well, everything except for one wonderful surprise:

the Circe scenes. I was absolutely floored by the fantastic body horror in that section.

That has convinced me, that Nolan at the very least can make a great horror flick as he so chooses.

This film was such a delight and reminded me once again why we go to the cinemas: to experience those stories that feel larger than life.

Do androids dream of electric sheep - Philip K Dick

[Blade runner]

Some of the most scifi-delic book covers I've seen.

I personally have the movie cover version for this one.

One of my favourite film series of all time!

Neuromancer - William Gibson (1984)

Love how many visual interpretations there are for this story.

(I have the yellow cover version)

Anyone here collect physical DVDs?

Recently got into building up my DVD collection again.

It's honestly rekindled my appreciation for movies more.

There's just such a different feel for me. Going to the shelf and picking a movie and committing.

- No endless scrolling for something to watch.

- Special features and out takes.

- Physically my property to enjoy, forever.

Does anyone else here collect and feel this way about it?

The Martian Chronicles by Ray Bradbury

Personally, I don't vibe with the newer minimalist scifi cover styles.

The classic prints just have so much batshit crazy character
