Devil ray boss for the Sea of Storms

I just updated Deep Sea Sweep with a new boss for the Sea of Storms, some new player animations and a skin system. These had all been planned for a long time, it always feels weird and satisfying when I finally get to sprite & animate those designs I drew years ago on paper.
Deep Sea Sweep revolves around switching between free movement and being affected by gravity, doing parkour and finding ways to progress. Play a small fish cleaning up the ocean floor from all the filthy treasure chests lying there.

I made an electric devil ray boss

I just updated my game, adding this boss to the Sea of Storms as well as implementing a character skin system in the game and improving the character animations. You won't find that boss in the demo, but the skins yes. Also including the skin shopkeeper sprite here as a bonus.

Sabre wasp model I designed

A few months ago I got worked up on designing a model for Rhyssa Persuasoria, a really cool looking wasp with a terrifying life cycle.
The final one was folded with 78cm kraft, black/grey because there was no more black/white... I'll need to start getting into custom silk paper for an iteration closer to the subject's proportions.
You can see the reverse story of the model in the pictures past the reference photo. It started with me being impressed by how thin and long I could points with a simple blintz bird base, but when I tried to have proportions closer to the real wasp, things got trickier. I tried several bases, classic and custom, and landed on a classic one which seemed the most suitable to have the least amount of wasted paper after thinning. Once the proportions were good, I changed the design several times to have super thin legs, then to have a less bulky body (because the paper I gained in the legs mostly went in the body), etc., just a story of paper layering optimization. The wings use the center of the square, since they can take in a lot of layers without issue, but due to the color swap I had to have the body more or less be the colors of the wings (so yellowish white, as opposed to the real wasp where it's mostly black). I was able to have some color patterns on the abdomen, and the legs can be whichever.
Due to its base the model isn't extremely complex, and the shaping is mostly "compress as much as you can everywhere". There's obviously a bunch of steps where you sink in and out all the flaps repeateadly to thin everything and they take like half the total folding time.

Cute aquatic enemies, fishes, crabs, urchins, sharks, jellyfishes and so on

Some of the enemies in my platformer game Deep Sea Sweep. Half of them are from the last added biome, Sea of Storms, but I also picked some from the rest of the game. The urchin, the giant clam and the square electric jellyfish are static and used rather as building blocks, but the others move around and can be knocked out, swimming away in tears. And the big coral turtle is a boss.

Some cute marine enemy animations

Some of the enemies in my game Deep Sea Sweep. Half of them are from the last added biome, Sea of Storms, but I also picked some from the rest of the game. The urchin, the giant clam and the square electric jellyfish are static and used rather as building blocks, but the others move around and can be knocked out. And the big coral turtle is a boss.
Also not shown here, but when you bonk them, they swim away while crying, because I thought it was a good compromise so that we're not a "mean" character.

Swimming and jumping with treasures in Deep Sea Sweep

Short gameplay reel for Deep Sea Sweep : the gameplay is about switching between free swimming and platforming while you carry heavy stuff.
I just updated it with new levels and small fixes, I'm currently at the 7th biome out of the 9 planned.

By the way, I'm always looking for playtesters to balance the difficulty, so if you enjoy this type of platformer or flash platformers in general, reach out to me here.

Thunderstorms under the sea in Deep Sea Sweep

I just updated Deep Sea Sweep with 7 levels for its 7th biome, the Sea of Storms. These levels feature new mobs and new mechanics like whirlpools which teleport you and the treasure chest, waves of electric fishes and alternating water currents. With all this new stuff, these levels were very fun to make and gave me ideas for many more levels that weren't planned before.

Having fun with sparkly electric jellyfishes

I've been working on a biome called Sea of Storms this month for my game Deep Sea Sweep, and it's pretty fun to do. Between the teleporting whirlpools and all the new electric mobs I made for the area I've got a lot of tools to play with, so it's a real breath of fresh air after the previous biomes I made. You can try the game's demo here : https://store.steampowered.com/app/2948030/Deep_Sea_Sweep/

Swarms of electric jellyfishes in the Sea of Storms

Early visuals from the latest biome I'm working on for my ocean platformer Deep Sea Sweep. When designing this biome I wanted lots of elements to emulate clouds and thunder, so I use big background dust clouds, and whirly/lightning patterns in the scenery. Also using some foreground and background jellyfishes in addition to the electric one used as building blocks for the gameplay, as pseudo thunderstorms. The biome is going to have a bunch of electric mobs and flow/whirlpool-related mechanics, it's going to be fun.
Deep Sea Sweep's gameplay is about switching between free movement and being affected by gravity when carrying treasure, to understand how to navigate towards your goal.
I just updated the game/demo with some fixes after getting feedback from recent playtests. You can check it out here, every wishlist helps : https://store.steampowered.com/app/2948030/Deep_Sea_Sweep/

Mega Lopunny pokemon model

For the convention I attended in april, I wanted to fold my Lopunny model again for the exhibition. I never got a satisfying result folding the mega version so I went for it this time with a 35cm kami sheet.
Here the paper prevented me from modelling the rings of fur on the ears further, because there was too much tension within and it started tearing.
When folded in big the proportion errors become more visible, so I think the design has room to evolve (+tail & brows are the wrong color). I also need to check if I can make the ears & limbs longer without affecting the simple structure too much.
I included a picture of it drying (mega evolution with the power of brushing) and one of the regular lopunny version.

Leafeon pokemon model

I have a model for espeon/umbreon/leafeon which is several years old, and when I folded the leafeon in a big sheet of 70cm at the start of the year (see last picture), I realized I could improve the proportions. So I reworked the model and tried to add color change while I was at it, here's the result after a lot of tries (green/white kami).
I made the head and ears bigger, the tail smaller, and managed to color change most of the leafy parts save for a few around the neck. I also tried to add color changed feet since I was using a lighter color for the body, execution isn't great but at least the possibility's there. I couldn't add the small leaves on each foot, though it might be possible with a bigger sheet.
It's a lot more complex & less elegant in its folding sequence than the initial design, so I think both models have room to coexist.

Alolan Ninetales model

A pokemon model I designed years ago, I decided to fold it again for an origami convention I was exhibiting at in april (spring meeting of the MFPP in france). This time I used a paper that kept its shape better, I wanted to see if I could sculpt the tail nicely. Result is that the model could use a slightly thicker paper still for the tail part, though that might make the body part difficult to fold since it is much thicker.
I was surprised when re-making the model to see that's it's quite easy to fold, it's very straightforward, and the delicate part is rather the modelling once it's "finished".
