Homes Near Honeywell- moving and looking into buying

Hi everyone and thank you in advance for taking time to answer questions. My partner and I are moving to Torrance and looking for homes around or near Honeywell (think 10 minute drive max). One, is that even feasible? I don’t know the area well but used to live in SD so I’m familiar with housing costs from several years ago. What’s realistic for two adults with a 1 - 1.5 M budget? Looking for quiet, no pollution (noise or limited air pollution that is not abnormal for the area), home with a pool, prefer SFH but townhome is okay, one of us WFH and the other can probably WFH with a few days commuting. Super active, love hiking, community events, good foodie places, chill vibes for people w/o kids. If there is a more appropriate place to ask, please let me know.

Why do they even try to force contact?

Not sure how to label this as it’s a combination of categories: questions, vent/rant, advice

It’s been over a year since my SO went no contact with his whole family. All of their numbers blocked but they still had access via emails we’ve both had for decades incase of emergency. There’s been no communication to either one of us (happily so for me because they’re toxic af) except for a few random holiday cards “don’t know what I did wrong, miss you, I know it wasn’t me” yada, yada from the matriarch (and only two to be exact).

Last month started a series of three texts (from a cloud email that can text) with the last two yesterday and today. It goes like this “this is my last try” to “you will always be my son” to “if you don’t respond I’m requesting a wellness check”… so much for fking boundaries. Even if the family doesn’t like me, if they were that concerned I think someone would have reached out to me by email as they’ve done in the past, before estrangement, when he didn’t want to talk to them and ignored their calls and messages.

“No contact” was decided without notice or explanation due to the nature of their toxicity, but NOW, almost 1.5 years later a wellness check is being threatened. I’m so happy I’m not violent, but I definitely saw red for a few hours tonight. The audacity. The manipulation. The fucking righteousness. I’d understand maybe if we were young- but we’re not. Now he has to deal with this toxic asshole by calling our local police and letting them know ahead of time that he is alive if/when she follows through with the threat.

Has anyone else had to deal with this?

He knows if he blocks the email she’ll just create a new one. We could change numbers but numbers are easy to find. Thankfully we don’t live in the same region. I’ve considered all options from sending a “do not contact ever again” message to restraining/harassment order.

He’s so stressed out it’s physically affecting his health but he doesn’t want me to reach out in any way, as he perceives it as feeding their illness. I just…… ahhhhhhhhhhhhhh! I don’t know if I need advice but man do I need a friend who understands how awful this is. I’m gonna need more therapy, fuck.

(Sorry for the cursing and I hope it’s not against rules- if so, I can remove the language).

Is everyone cheating?

I just started playing on Lichess because it was obvious people were cheating on chess.com. I was doing really well, ELO around 1100, and now my ELO dropped to mid-800 and I can barely win a game. I’m all for learning but wth and what can I do about it? Obviously I want to win, but I want to learn more and enjoy the game. It starts out well and somewhat slow, then the players seem to take a few minutes to figure out their next move around mid-game and then anticipate every single move I play with a quickness. I’m trying to figure out if it’s me or if people really cheat that much. I need some friends who like to play so I can have a real challenge ):
