Florida doesn’t pay teachers enough to even rent in their state

My girlfriend and I are trying to move in together and the apartment complexes act like they love teachers in this county so much but my pay isn’t enough to get approved for renting anywhere. We need to make 3x the monthly rent to get approved and my salary is just about 2.5x any place that’s decent. We would get approved but unfortunately my girlfriend is out of a job currently and no one is hiring in her field. She’s applied to basically every place in the area and a ton of remote jobs. She’s even starting to look at waitressing due to a lack of jobs. Fuck this economy and fuck Florida for not wanting to fund public schools.

What’s the big buzz word being using at your professional developments this year?

For our science PD day, “inquiry” has been used countless times. If I made this a drinking game, I’d be on the floor already and it’s not even noon.

Postictal phase is basically sleepwalking?

I have recently learned that in my postictal phase, I walk around for about 10-15 minutes. My girlfriend said she is not able to get me back into bed because I am stronger than her. Anyone else move around like they’re sleepwalking when they’re postictal and how do you deal with that?

If Japan, Germany, or the Soviet Union had developed the nuke before the Americans, where would they have dropped them? (Let’s say it was early 1945)

I started watching The Man in the High Castle and it got me thinking about potential alternate history possibilities. I heard them say in the show that Germany bombed DC, but if the war had played out like it was in reality, where do you think would’ve been bombed? My guess is Germany would’ve nuked part of London, but I’m not so sure where Japan or the Soviets would’ve chosen to drop a nuke.

Just had my first seizure in 2.5 years 🙃

Haven’t been on meds for 2 years bc 1) I had no insurance between college and getting a job, so I literally couldn’t afford it. 2) After getting a job I felt fine and was very short on cash still so I just didn’t get a neurologist where I move to for work. I have been fine off my meds so 🤷🏻‍♂️ however last night I came to after a postictal state standing up by the door of the apartment and my girlfriend extremely concerned. Now I get to be charged up the ass for unnecessary X-rays and CT scans. Of course the main hospital in the city doesn’t take the insurance of the fucking school district (I teach high school) and I’m already in the negatives when accounting what’s in my bank account vs what’s on my credit card. Fuck the American healthcare system and fuck epilepsy.

UPDATE: they had me sign up for a thing to see about if the hospital would fully cover it if insurance wouldn’t and I just got a message that my cost for the visit is $0 so thankfully that bullet is avoided.

Rewatching the show and noticed something a little wrong with this scene

I feel like whoever designed this set really could’ve looked up which direction a telescope is supposed to point 🤦🏻‍♂️😂

M8 Lagoon Nebula

Taken with a Seestar S50, total of 53 minutes after edits in Siril. One of my favorite things to observe with the S50. It’s been basically cloudy every night all summer and finally got a good night last night.

Anyone else barely scraping by this summer?

I had to have surgery at the start of the summer and if my dad wasn’t helping pay the $3,500 I have to pay out of pocket, I wouldn’t have enough money to pay for rent in August. My credit card is over halfway to being maxed out so it’ll probably be 2027 before my credit card is fully paid off and I start adding money to my bank account. Then I’ll get to repeat the process again next summer because teaching pays so fucking little. Shit like this is when I feel worthless.

Sports/online betting needs to be regulated like alcohol and tobacco

I swear to fucking god the number of sports betting or “bet on random shit” ads I get on TV and YouTube is insane. How the fuck is it legal to just allow gambling on literally anything? It’s SUPER addictive like nicotine and a lot of times it’s directed towards kids. I am a high school teacher and have had students talking about how much they can’t wait to gamble or get into sports betting. They’re addicted before they even can do it yet. What the actual fuck? Betting on random shit and sports NEEDS TO BE REGULATED.

Question for Americans teaching internationally at IB schools

How difficult is it to find a job at one of these schools and how is it compared to teaching in the USA? After a few things I saw in the news the past few days, I have moved another step closer to wanting to get out of the USA. My dad suggested I look into teaching at IB schools but I don’t really know much about how IB schools work compared to schools in the US.
