Jungsik (3 Michelin Stars) Dinner - July 2026 inTribeca

First time at Jungsik, a restaurant that's maintained its third Michelin star since earning it in 2024. We each also ordered the supplemental uni dish (+$75).

The beginning amuse-bouches were quite delicious, a mix of cold & hot bites. The server recommended to start with the bottom right first and go clockwise. I enjoyed the bites on the higher column more as they had more flavors. The two bowled ones felt more subtle and mild in comparison, but I guess that's why those are the recommended starting points.

My favorite courses were the Octopus and Galbi. Both were perfectly cooked and almost melt in your mouth tender.

Great visuals from the dessert courses, so cutely designed. Of the three, I liked the stone-looking statue the best as it contained a chocolate hazelnut filling, which I'm a sucker for as a flavor combo. The veggie garden, while also stunning in presentation was kind of meh when actually eating them.

Front of House mentioned the chef recently opened a second restaurant, Muje. Hoping to try sometime in the future.

Oneg Bakery in South Williamsburg - Temporarily Closed?

Google Maps is showing Oneg Bakery as temporarily closed. Does anyone know when they plan on re-opening? Are they just closed for a summer vacation?

Looking to itch a rugelach craving. What are other alternative bakeries with great rugelachs in the nearby area?

TIA.

Kabawa (East Village) Dinner Reservation - July 2026

Early dinner reservation towards the restaurant's opening time. When I arrived, there were already a few other parties waiting by the entrance to enter.

Kabawa offers a set menu ($150) dining with one selection from each category of appetizer, main, and dessert. Price will vary if you choose supplemental items. Offerings NOT listed that are provided free of charge are the fresh roti & yucca cube (?) with various dips at the very start and fresh tamarind as a palate cleanser between main & dessert.

I ordered the Pepper Shrimp, Goat Curry, and Coconut Turnover.

Pepper shrimp - good amount of spice from the scotch bonnet and from the oil & vinegary light sauce that the shrimps sit on. I thought it could have used more of the tart element than flavored oil and a touch more fresh thyme that was sprinkled on top. Overall though quite tasty.

Goat curry - comes with salad, rice, roasted Japanese sweet potato, and pinto beans. The accompanying sides individually were good, but when eaten with the curry, they became great. Goat itself had deep flavors and was tender. I wish I had more of the roti just to sop up any remaining sauce.

Coconut turnover - similar light fluffiness to buns you find in Chinatown bakeries. It came warm and the inside filling felt like Christmas in every bite.

For the roti, three of four dips were sweet. I'd personally have preferred more of a ratio of 3:1 or 2:2 savory to sweet, especially as a pre-app starter.

This meal was a top 3 for me in 2026 and on the list for a return visit to try other menu items. From service entering to leaving the restaurant, to environment & ambiance, to deliciousness of food - I really enjoyed my time here.

Minetta Tavern in Greenwich Village - July 2026 for Lunch Menu

Booked a reservation for solo lunch. Seated immediately and the server brought over the customary solo diner complimentary champagne without prompt.

I love the atmosphere and decor of this spot, especially the caricatures on the wall.

Baguette came to the table hot & fresh. Great flavor to the bread but only ate a bit as I didn't want to be filled up on carbs ahead of the main reason why I came - trying the famous Black Label Burger.

Ordered with a side salad with the fries & burger. Perfectly medium on the inside, as requested. A bit longer on the wait for mains than I assumed for a burger. I think almost 20 minutes from baguette being served. Could have been because it was a busier lunch rush.

Onto the burger, I prefer pub-style over smashed. I want to taste the beef and this one certainly delivered. Not mind-blowing as some other reviews I've read about the Black Label. I'd say it was good overall (3/5). For me, not a return visit kind of order.

As a comprehensive dining experience though, I would take friends & family visiting the city to this spot.

Great NY Noodletown Lunch - Soft Shell Crab Season

Went in around 11:30am for 2 people. No wait and we shared a 9 top with 4 other separate diners.

Total of five dishes ordered:

  1. Roast pork & BBQ pork

  2. Mixed seafood with taro bird's nest

  3. Clams in black bean sauce

  4. Congee (fish)

  5. Fried soft shell crab (2 pieces for $28)

Total (server said tip was already added to the bill) was $118.45. This is a cash only establishment, as with many Chinatown spots.

We came for the soft shell crabs! Not heavy or oily taste, light and well-flavored batter. The roast pork had an excellent crisp to it. The BBQ pork was slightly dry and mostly lean; I personally prefer a cut that's fatty and lean, so that was on me for not asking for the 50/50 cut.

Everything else was alright. Not my favorite Cantonese restaurant in Chinatown but this is the only one I know of selling soft shell crab at the moment.

The Modern (2 Michelin Stars) - June 2026 Dinner Menu

Ordered the Dinner Abstractions Menu ($275, not including tax or tip).

For a 2 star, I expected a bit more service-wise.

I came a little earlier than my reservation time and was finally seated 11-12 minutes after the time. The dining room was not full yet, so it really shouldn't have taken that long to be seated as a solo diner, especially.

Then it took maybe 6-8 minutes longer before someone greeted me and handed me the drinks menu. After, another moment before I was given the actual dining menu to walk me through it, etc. The pauses did not seem necessary at all.

Food-wise, nothing I could fault really. Good flavors and fair portions for the price. The only course I did not enjoy was the first dessert of green almond slivers over grapefruit granita but I don't like bitter foods anyway.

At the end of the meal, they offered a kitchen tour which was a nice touch. Downside of restaurant's environment I'd say is their bathrooms. Not as high-end or as well-maintained as I would expect from a 2 star restaurant, felt like they copied and pasted the MoMA public bathrooms.

For me, this is not a return spot considering the myriad of other food options at or around this price range in NYC. But I am still glad I tried it - more as an "ok, checked off the culinary bucket list".

The Four Horsemen (1 Michelin) - Walk-in Dinner on a Saturday

I tried to get the reservation for this date/time but all slots were booked up in seconds after releasing.

I came around 4:25pm on a Saturday for a table of 2 at 5:30pm. I was first in line. Front of House came outside at 4:45pm to start taking down walk-in information.

This was my first time here, and after this meal, I'm determined to come back multiple times to try new menu items. New favorite restaurant in Brooklyn now!

The two starts we chose (Kumamoto oysters and Oeuf Mayonnaise) are skippable imo. Oysters were nothing special, so for $11/piece, I didn't think they were worth. The oeuf mayonnaise was exactly as advertised; eggs with mayonnaise. While it was topped with caviar, the strong mayonnaise flavor masked the subtle caviar flavor. So really was more of a garnish. I expected a more jammy egg inside but it was kind of like a medium poach.

Now the following middle + end + dessert courses were where this meal ramped up in every positive way possible.

The Bangs Island Mussels, squid Panzanella, Yellowfin tuna, and Berkshire Porkchop are all must-orders. Near perfect in terms of textures of different components, well-balanced tastes of acidity/saltiness/sweetness/spiciness where appropriate respectively for each of those dishes.

As for the desserts, all three were incredible BUT if you can only order one, I'd suggest the Chocolate Olive Oil Cake. It was not at heavy, which is what I assumed when ordering. The olive oil flavors were pronounced during some bites more than others (I wonder if it's dispersion technique when mixing the batter?), but didn't make much of difference overall because it was so so delicious.

This restaurant certainly deserves an hour walk-in start time.

Huso (1 Michelin Star earned in 2025) - Spring 2026 Menu

I thought the ramping up of the amuse‐bouche courses was perfect with the third (stuffed fried potato) being my favorite.

Coming into the main middle courses, there really were no misses.

If they'd let me order the second dessert course inspired by Black Forest cake, I would go just for that.

12-courses for $285 (does not include gratuity).
