Anyone taken EE 599: Reinforcement Learning and Large Language Models (Rashidinejad)?
Hey everyone, I just registered for EE 599 - Reinforcement Learning and Large Language Models with Prof. Paria Rashidinejad for Fall 2026. She's new to USC (came from Meta FAIR), and this course ran for the first time Fall 2025, so there's basically zero info about it online.
If anyone took it last semester, would really appreciate hearing:
- How was the workload, especially combined with another core course?
- Is the project actually manageable in a semester, or pretty intense?
- How's her teaching style — does she explain RL fundamentals well for people without an EE 559 background?
- Final grades — was it generally fair/achievable for an A given the project-based grading?
Syllabus shows 100% project-based grading (no exams), 4 units, covers RL fundamentals → RLHF → LLM reasoning. Just trying to get a sense of what I'm walking into. Thanks in advance!
