Am I actually a smaller size than I think I am?

Hi! I’m 26 and I’m trying to figure out what clothing size I actually am because I struggle with body dysmorphia and it really affects how I perceive my body.

My waist is 26 inches and my hips are 35 inches. I’m 1.50 m tall (about 4'11"). I mostly wear skirts, so I usually don’t pay much attention to my hip measurement when choosing clothes.

Depending on the brand, I can fit anywhere from XXS to M. I wear a lot of vintage clothing, and these sizes generally fit me well. However, because of my body dysmorphia, I sometimes convince myself that I need a size L, and that almost never works out for me. 😭

I know sizing varies a lot between brands, but I genuinely have a hard time understanding what size I should consider myself. Based on these measurements, would you say I’m generally in the XS/S range, or is there another way I should be looking at sizing?

I’d really appreciate some perspective because I feel like I’m completely unable to judge my own size accurately. Thank you! ♡

Looking for a PVC fashion corset — which brand would you recommend?

Hi everyone! I’m looking for a PVC corset mainly for fashion, and I’ve been considering Annzley corset, Orchard Corset, and Dracula Clothing.

As you can probably tell, I’m not looking for something super cheap, but I also don’t want to spend a fortune. My budget is around $100–$120 USD. I’m not expecting exceptional, high-end corsetry at that price — I mostly care about how it looks and the silhouette.

The ONE thing I really want to avoid is a corset that makes me look boxy or square. I want something that gives me a nice, feminine hourglass shape and actually looks good with outfits. Since this is primarily for fashion, aesthetics are really important to me.

If you’ve bought from any of these three, which one would you recommend? And if you have any other PVC corset suggestions around the same price range, I’d love to hear them!

Thanks!! 🖤

TWould you still wait for this custom order, or would you ask for a refund?

Hi everyone! I wanted to get some opinions from people in the alternative/goth community because I'm honestly not sure what I would do in this situation.

I ordered a custom corset from a corset maker in Chile because I wanted something similar to the Mystic City MCC22, but customized to fit me better.

At first, everything seemed fine. I paid an $80 USD deposit, and we agreed that I would pay the rest when the corset was finished. She originally quoted me $100 USD, but later increased it to $120 USD. That didn't really bother me.

The problems started afterward.

I specifically asked for steel bones, and she initially agreed. Later she changed her mind and told me she would only use plastic bones. She also spent a lot of time telling me Mystic City Corsets were low quality and that their steel bones bend easily, so I ended up trusting her.

I also asked if she could include adjustable hip laces like the MCC22, but later she told me she'd already started making the corset and couldn't add them anymore.

The biggest issue has been the delivery time.

Originally she told me it would take about one month with the deposit, or around two weeks if I had paid everything upfront. After that month had already passed, she suddenly told me she had always said it would take at least two months instead.

What made me even more uncomfortable is that she only said this after mentioning that one of her friends would be traveling to my country at the end of the month, so it would be easier for her to send it that way.

Whenever I asked for progress photos, she either didn't have any or barely showed me anything.

Eventually I told her I was starting to feel like I had been scammed because so many things had changed since the beginning. She got very offended and said I was insulting her work. She also said she'd already spent my deposit on materials, so if I wanted my money back I'd have to wait until she finished the corset and then until she sold it to someone else.

Despite everything, I still don't know if I should just be patient and wait or if these are too many red flags.

If you were in my position, would you still wait for the corset, or would you try to get your money back?

I'd really appreciate hearing what you would do.

Does anyone else in alternative fashion feel like social media distorts the way you see yourself?

I wanted to talk about something that happened recently because I’m wondering if other people in alternative fashion spaces experience this too.

I made a post on Instagram talking about how sometimes I feel like my corset doesn’t make my waist look “small enough,” and wondering if my perception of myself was becoming distorted, because other people kept telling me the waist reduction actually looked very noticeable.

Some people understood what I meant, but another person accused me of promoting body checking and harmful beauty standards.

The thing is… that genuinely wasn’t my intention.

I wasn’t trying to tell people they need tiny waists or extreme bodies. I was talking about my own experience with body perception after spending a lot of time around heavily stylized alternative fashion spaces online.

I feel like in a lot of alt communities — goth, visual kei, emo, gyaru, fetish fashion, corsetry, etc. — we constantly see:

- edited photos

- extreme silhouettes

- tiny waists

- heavy makeup

- very curated aesthetics

and after a while it can genuinely affect how you see yourself.

Lately I’ve noticed that when I’m NOT wearing a corset or fully styled, I sometimes feel bigger, more square-shaped, or less “right” than I used to before getting deeply into these aesthetics.

Not because anyone directly told me that, but because my brain got used to seeing exaggerated silhouettes all the time.

I think people sometimes assume any conversation about body perception automatically means pro-ED or body checking, but I honestly think there’s a more nuanced discussion to have about how aesthetics, fashion, social media, shapewear, posing, and editing can slowly change the way we perceive our own bodies.

Does anyone else relate to this?

Has anyone else felt weird about their natural body after wearing corsets a lot?

I wanted to talk about something that happened to me recently because now I’m wondering if other people experience this too.

I posted on Instagram talking about how sometimes I feel like my corset doesn’t make my waist look “small enough,” and asking if maybe my perception of myself was distorted, because other people kept telling me my waist reduction actually looked very noticeable.

Some people understood what I meant, but one person accused me of promoting body checking and harmful body standards.

The thing is, that genuinely wasn’t what I meant at all.

I wasn’t trying to say everyone needs a tiny waist or encourage unhealthy behavior. I was honestly talking about my own perception of myself and wondering if corsets have started altering the way I see my body.

Lately I’ve noticed that when I’m NOT wearing a corset, I sometimes feel more square-shaped or bigger than I used to feel before getting into corsetry, even though logically I know my body probably hasn’t changed that much.

It almost feels like my brain got too used to seeing the exaggerated hourglass silhouette, so now my natural body looks “wrong” to me sometimes.

Does anyone else experience this?

I feel like people immediately assume discussions like this are automatically pro-ED or body checking, but I think there’s also a real conversation to have about body perception and how fashion/shapewear can affect it psychologically.

Does anyone know where to buy a top like this?

Does anyone know where I could get a top like this? The original brand doesn’t ship to my country. I’d like it to look as similar as possible — it can be from someone who makes custom orders or from another brand in general.

Has anyone here tried this corset brand? Thoughts?

While looking for corsets online I came across a brand/store called “Annzley Official Store” on AliExpress. They also seem to have an official Instagram and a more established image than the average cheap fashion corset brands.

What surprised me is that the prices are not even that cheap — some corsets go from around $70 USD up to $600 USD — so now I’m genuinely curious about the actual quality.

Looking through reviews, I noticed very mixed opinions:

  • some people seem to get a really dramatic reduction and silhouette from them
  • while others say the corsets don’t reduce much at all or fit strangely

So I honestly don’t know what to think 😭

I already own / have experience with more serious corsets, so I’m not looking for a simple fashion corset. I’m mostly wondering:

  • are these actually decent quality?
  • are they suitable for waist reduction/tightlacing?
  • or are they more “Instagram aesthetic” than real corsetry?

I’d especially appreciate opinions from people familiar with brands like Mystic City, Timeless Trends, Restyle, WKD, etc.

Also, if anyone owns one from Annzley, I’d LOVE to see real photos/reviews because the product photos almost look too good to be true sometimes 😭

Do you guys know any people/shops that make custom corsets for under $100 USD if possible? 😭

It doesn’t need to give an extreme waist reduction or anything super dramatic, I mostly just want something that doesn’t make me look boxy/square like a lot of fast fashion corsets do.

I care more about:

- a nice silhouette

- decent shaping

- and a flattering fit overall

than super intense tightlacing.

I’m open to smaller creators too!

EDIT: Please, if you are going to comment without understanding how Latin America works, don’t do it

I’m from Latin America, and here you can genuinely find SO much talent for those prices because many corset makers work independently/by themselves instead of being large luxury brands.

A lot of people here are acting like anything under $300 USD automatically means “Temu quality” when that’s really not true in many Latin American countries

There are incredibly talented seamstresses/corset makers here making beautiful and durable pieces for accessible prices, especially compared to US/EU pricing.

Alternative fashion doesn’t have one rulebook

I’m honestly tired of being called a “poser” or told I’m “not really alternative” just because I don’t wear white foundation or destroy my hair with bleach and heat every month. I’ve been into alternative fashion and music since I was 13, and now I’m 26. I wear what I genuinely love: short skirts, corsets, platform boots, vintage pieces, fishnets, dramatic makeup, all of it. But apparently for some people that’s still “not alternative enough” because I take care of my skin and hair? And the funniest part is… I never even called myself goth. Other people label me that automatically and then get mad that I don’t fit their image of what a goth person should look like. I actually get nervous wearing black lipstick outside or even posting photos with it because I know people immediately start assuming things about me. Then somehow I get called a poser for not matching stereotypes I never claimed in the first place. I just like alternative fashion and darker aesthetics sometimes. But I also LOVE colors. I love colorful outfits, colorful skirts, different styles, mixing vintage pieces with dramatic fashion, and expressing myself however I want depending on my mood. Why does everything have to fit into one strict category? Alternative fashion was supposed to be about individuality and creativity, not following another set of rules made by strangers online. And honestly, I’ve noticed a lot of the people acting superior only got into alt fashion recently because it became trendy on TikTok or Instagram, yet they act like they’re the authority on who is “real” or “fake.” Meanwhile some of us have been dressing this way for over a decade without needing validation from strangers. Not every alternative person wants fried hair. Not everyone wearing black lipstick is trying to be goth. And wearing white foundation doesn’t magically make someone more authentic. You don’t need to suffer to express yourself. You don’t need to fit a stereotype to enjoy alternative fashion. People seriously need to stop gatekeeping self-expression. I know this kind of thing has existed for years. There’s always been that one person crawling out of the nearest sewer just to call someone a “poser.” Back then you saw it mostly in metal communities, but now it feels like it became a trend with goth and alternative spaces online. And honestly, I can’t help but wonder how many of these TikTok “goths” will still dress or act the same in a few years. A lot of people just follow trends and aesthetics because they’re popular at the moment, and then suddenly they act like they’re experts on authenticity. Ironically, that obsession with trends is usually what makes it obvious who’s actually new to the scene. The people who have been alternative for years normally don’t care this much about policing strangers over makeup, hair, or whether someone wears enough black.

Hey everyone, I wanted to share my opinion and also hear yours.

Personally, I really dislike corsets from fast fashion brands like SHEIN. In my experience, they often look like corsets but don’t actually function like real ones. The fit is usually off, they don’t shape the body properly, and sometimes they can even make you look bulkier instead of enhancing your silhouette.

What bothers me even more is when people or shops resell them at higher prices, marketing them as if they were real corsets. That just feels misleading.

Honestly, I think it’s better to not wear a corset at all than to wear something poorly made that doesn’t fit right and could even be uncomfortable or potentially harmful if it’s constructed badly.

Of course, this is just my perspective. I know they’re affordable and accessible, which is a big plus for many people. But I’m curious:

Have you tried SHEIN corsets?

Did they work for you or not?

Do you think they’re worth it for beginners?

Would love to hear different experiences and opinions!

Hi! I’d really appreciate some advice before buying my next corset.

My measurements (rounded):

Underbust: 31”

Waist: 27”

Hips: 36”

I’m considering getting a 22” corset for a more dramatic reduction. I already have experience with corsets and I’m comfortable with tighter lacing, but I don’t want something that puts too much pressure on my ribs.

I’ve been looking at models like MCC22, MCC29 and MCC61V, but I’m not sure which one would suit my proportions best.

Some extra info:

I’m 5’0” (153 cm) and have a short torso

I’m okay with a small gap if needed, but I’d prefer a relatively clean fit

My goal is a defined waist, but still comfortable enough to wear for a while

Do you think a 22” would work for me, or would a 24” be a better choice?

And which model would you recommend for my measurements and body type?

I don’t even care if it’s sleeveless or long sleeve, I just LOVE the furry/fluffy detail it has 🥹 that’s literally the whole vibe I’m looking for.

If you know the exact one OR anything similar, please drop links, brands, or keywords I should search for!!

I feel like it might be some kind of Y2K / faux fur crop top, but I can’t find the exact one anywhere 💔

Help a girl out pls 😭♡
