i built a card game that turns wikipedia into 55k collectible cards

solo founder, launched at the end of september.

the idea: every card is a wikipedia article and rarity comes from the article's real page views, the 90 day median. a pipeline keeps adding cards from wikipedia, about 55k so far. once issued a card never changes rarity, so early cards stay what they were.

what's in it: packs, families and albums, kosmo earned per hour from your collection, an auction market, trades and gifts between friends, daily challenges, and a gamemode

stack is next.js, fastify, postgres. it's a pwa, english french spanish.

money only buys cosmetics. no packs or cards for money, i didn't want pay to win.

ai disclosure: card text is summarized by a language model, some pictures are generated.

My Airbnb damage claim nightmare as a guest [ON, CANADA]

Hi everyone,

I wanted to share my experience as a guest because this has completely destroyed my trust in Airbnb.

My wife and I stayed in an Airbnb in Leslieville, Toronto, from May 29 to June 4. The stay was stressful from the beginning. The shower was defective from day one and leaked water all over the bathroom. I reported it less than 24 hours after check-in with photos, and the host acknowledged that it needed to be replaced.

Later, the dishwasher/kitchen area leaked. I stopped the dishwasher, cleaned up the water with towels, sent photos, and informed the host immediately. A window crank also broke while I was closing the window normally, and I reported it right away with a photo.

The host’s behavior also made us uncomfortable. He sent late-night messages, including one at around 11:15 PM reminding us not to smoke inside, which he later said was a general reminder. He also messaged us saying he had noticed our windows were open, even though we had never met him. It genuinely made us feel monitored.

The worst part happened around 10:30 PM one night, when a friend or associate of the host entered the property using the access code while my wife and I were inside and asleep. I had agreed to access if needed while we were not home. I had not agreed to someone entering late at night while we were inside.

After checkout, the host replied positively and mentioned no damage.

Then, 14 days later, the host submitted a large damage claim for the kitchen counter, window frame, and shower. I disputed everything. The shower was later removed from the final amount, which basically confirms that at least one part of the original claim was not valid as guest-caused damage. But Airbnb still sided with the host on the kitchen counter and window and now wants me to pay EUR 1,158.46.

What makes this even more absurd is that Airbnb Support had previously told me in writing that the host’s reimbursement request had been abandoned and that I no longer had to worry about it. Then the claim was reopened, Airbnb paid the host, and only after that decided I owed money.

I appealed, and Airbnb rejected the appeal.

I have a long clean Airbnb history with no damage claims ever. I reported every issue immediately, sent photos, cooperated with the host, and tried to prevent damage when leaks happened. None of that seems to have mattered.

Airbnb says they will charge my card. I ended up locking and replacing the cards on my account because Airbnb would not even let me remove one of them while the claim was pending.

At this point, I am not planning to use Airbnb again.

My only remaining question is practical: if Airbnb cannot charge my card, what usually happens next? Do they just ban the account, send the amount to collections, or actually pursue legal action for this kind of disputed damage claim?

Thanks for reading everyone. <3

How is Charles Street for a female?

Is it dangerous because of the sanctuary? I went out once this morning and got catcalled then harassed by a guy who seemed drunk.

Need help with how to position TV in condo

Hi everyone!

I just leased this condo and will be moving in next week. On the plan you can see how they suggest to place the media space furniture (sofa and TV + seats) because of the pillar (black circle). I'm thinking of doing the opposite: put an L shaped couch where they put the TV against the plain wall and put the TV where they put the sofa. The L part of the L shape couch I'm thinking should be on the left so that it extends into the room and creates some kind of separation for the media space.

I feel I need to say that aside from that plain wall, everything is floor to ceiling glass windows.

I feel like if I put the TV where they suggest I would have so much reflection during the day it'd be crazy unusable + the end of my couch would be a pillar which sucks for the view + no L shape couch possible

I would really love some inputs if you guys have the time to help me out! I'll attach the floor plan as well as a poorly drawn schema of what I have in mind.

FYI condo is south south west facing in Toronto and we watch TV mostly during afternoon / evening / night.

Thank you so much in advance

How can I find a sublet in Toronto

Hi there. Sublets are much cheaper than Airbnb so I'd love to find one... Where should I look? I browsed around facebook but there's like a million groups and the marketplace don't differentiate sublets from normal long term lease :(

i got tired of searching 15 different places for toronto sublets so i built this

i recently moved to toronto and spent way more time than i'd like to admit looking for a furnished sublet.

the listings were everywhere. facebook groups, marketplace, kijiji, craigslist...

so i ended up building a tool that pulled everything together into one place.

it worked well enough for me that i decided to put it online:

subletopia.com

it aggregates furnished sublets from multiple sources and makes them searchable from a single page.

figured i'd share it here in case it's useful to anyone else.

happy to hear any feedback or suggestions.
