Totally alone

Technically, today is not my first day in Germany. It was yesterday, when I landed and went on the train to my more rural school town. But today is the first day I am all on my own, no kind strangers, no one who knows any English. I plan on learning German and strengthening my A1 to an even higher level while I'm here, but I already feel how debilitating it is not knowing the local language of a country you're living in.

I used to live in South Korea, and I am at a B1/B2 level there, so there was no trouble navigating or communicating with people there. I made friends—both Korean and foreigner—and I did not feel so alone. But here in Germany, I struggle to understand people already, and I'm not sure how to navigate situations yet.

I guess this is a vent post, but also I'm reaching out for anyone who can relate, or give any words of encouragement for my days ahead.

NEED urgent help

I already delayed my flight and had to pay $1000 to do so, I cannot reschedule again. Long story short, my pet health cert was lost in the mail (USPS, why didn't my vet tell me to choose a different carrier??), and I live in Arizona and the USDA closed already (I emailed them anyways for them to see ASAP tmmr).

DO I NEED THE SHIPPED CERTIFICATE FOR TRAVEL WITH MY CAT IN GERMANY? OR CAN I PRINT OUT THE PDF MYSELF (IT'S WATERMARKED)? FLIGHT IS ON 1ST OCTOBER, TODAY IS 28TH SEPTEMBER

Edit: flying Phoenix to Munich

Should I call the consulate today

I am going to Germany on a student visa. I attended my visa interview at the LA consulate on July 20. I didn't get any update on the visa, so emailed them again. They told me it was issued. I asked them if I will get a tracking number for my passport with the visa inside, getting mailed to my house. They said yes, but it has been 7 days since my last email to them, and still no update or tracking number. My flight is in 19 days. Should I just call them?

Pre-paid envelope

For those of you who received their visa via mail, did you need to bring a pre-paid envelope for the embassy/consulate to use for sending the visa back to your address?

I had my biometric appointment on July 20th and they took my passport, saying they will mail it back. But now I am worried because some places online say you need to bring that to the appointment to get your visa mailed back. I emailed them and they said I will get tracking information, but I am still very worried because it has been a long time since I received any updates. The consulate only told me my visa was issued after I explicitly asked in an email, 1 month after my appointment.

Issued but not mailed out

• Heard nothing from consulate

• Emailed, asked for update

• They say visa has been issued

•They don't elaborate 🤨

• I ask if they will still send it and my passport to me

• Consulate: 🦗🦗🦗🦗🦗🦗🦗🦗

•Me: 😤😤

(In my country, I live 6 hours away from the consulate so I cannot just pick up my passport/visa 😮‍💨)

Transferability of prescription

Forward: I posted this on the imago sub, it's so small that I didn't receive any answers 😅 so thought that I would bring it here!

My gf wants to start HRT, and thought about doing imago. One concern she and her family have is possibly becoming too dependent on private healthcare. Is the prescription easily transferable and recognized if a client wants to pursue public healthcare later on?

Is it a good idea for her to sign up for a therapist appointment (waitlist) now so once she is established with medication prescribed by imago, she can eventually seamlessy change to a public healthcare provider for more affordable care?

Did I make a mistake and waste my money?

Hi, I am an incoming master's student at European Campus Rottal-Inn for the 2026 Winter semester. Although I am from the United States and technically do not need to apply for a student visa to enter Germany, I did anyway in order to gain the ability to work immediately upon arrival and make the process of obtaining a residence visa a bit more smooth.

However, I am wondering if I made the wrong choice. I attended my visa interview on 20th July and it has been 4 weeks without hearing anything from the consulate or receiving my passport or visa decision yet. There has been no change to my online visa application status, and I am worried I may not receive my visa before my flight and before I am supposed to start the semester in October.

Should I just wait a bit longer and trust that I will receive my passport/visa? When should I reach out to the consulate for an update? Should I have made the choice to enter Germany as a tourist and apply for the residence permit directly instead?

Attacked while sleeping on the bus

I just got back to Phoenix from LA and had to write down everything that happened before I forgot. After reading this, tell me what course of action should I take, and should I press charges?

I just got attacked by someone in psychosis. I was sleeping and a man laid over me and tried to pull the lever of my seat to put it in the upright position. I woke up and told him to stop, I pushed him off of me and he got off. Then he started fighting with another man, accusing him of having a knife. Man A (seat lever attacker) also said that he saw man B (tattoo guy) switch seats and that man B was doing something to the woman in front of me. One of them said "you don't do that to women" and man A said that he was trying to help the women (me and a woman in front of me).

Both men started having a physical altercation until man A (the one who attacked me) started choking man B, and man B's girlfriend tried to hit man A so he would not kill man B. We then stopped at the first stop of the trip (Indio, CA) and man B and girlfriend got off. I also got off the bus to try to process everything that happened. I asked the bus driver if man A was kicked off, and he said no, unless he files a police report.

Another woman who was sitting in front of me said that her wig was snatched off while sleeping. I was not comfortable going back on, knowing that man A was still on the bus, so I grabbed my belongings and got off. The driver said he's not leaving until I get back on the bus, and man A came over to me to try convincing me to get on so we can all go home. It seemed like he was suffering some kind of psychosis. In the end, the driver started to call 911 and man A ran off to who knows where. I then went back on the bus because I felt safe enough.
