AT&T Unlimited Plus Multi Line vs new Value 2.0 plan
I’m currently on the AT&T Unlimited Plus Multi Line.
Breakdown:
- 3 phone lines + 2 smartwatches on this legacy unlimited plan
- Unlimited talk, text, data on all phone lines (older plan structure)
- Each line has a $20/month Visual Voicemail add-on
- Includes free HBO (HBO Max / Max benefit depending on account migration)
Bill total: ~$247/month for service only (no installment plans included). This just increased by about $20 this month.
Proposed change:
- Move 2 lines to a newer Value 2.0 plan
- Keep 1 line on Extra 2.0
- Includes 2 smartwatches
- No VVM (don’t care for this)
- Lose HBO (ok with this)
- New estimated total: ~$171/month for service
What the rep told me:
The rep said the 2 lines moving to Value 2.0 would actually get faster speeds than what they have now, while also significantly lowering my bill without losing performance.
That confused me because my understanding was:
- Extra 2.0 = higher priority data tier (100GB high-speed data)
- Value 2.0 = lower-cost plan with more deprioritization during congestion
- My current Unlimited Plus Multi Line may still have stronger legacy consistency and perks
My questions:
- Is Value 2.0 actually faster or better optimized than my current plan? Or is it simply cheaper with different network prioritization rules?
- Am I likely to notice any performance drop on the 2 lines?
- Am I giving up meaningful legacy perks by switching?
- Overall, is this a real upgrade in efficiency or just a cost-cutting downgrade?
The rep I spoke to admitted he was new (no fault on him), which is why I’m trying to double-check before making any changes. The cost savings are pretty significant, so I want to make sure I’m not missing something obvious on the performance side.
