Our 10.5 year old lab mix is slowing down fast. The difference in her activity level between last spring and this spring is like night and day. I obviously hope we have several more healthy years with her, but the signs are starting to show and it’s breaking my heart.

Shes always been my bestie, but we’ve bonded even more since 2020 because I have worked from home since then. We have been side by side 24/7 and I feel like she is my other half. My husband and I were laughing the other day because it seems sometimes she knows my next move before I even do.

Anyway… I’ve been thinking, we try to prepare for after life arrangements for ourselves and loved ones, why not try to do the same for her. I figured the less thinking and decision making I have to do when that time comes, the better. Even just with the few, pretty quick things we’ve done so far, I feel a tiny bit of anxiety lifted about the topic.

So far, we have…
— a bag of her absolute favorite treats stashed away for her to enjoy that day.. she goes crazy for them
— money set aside for the vet to come to our house to do it.. just in case money is tight that day/week.. figured it would be one less thing to worry about.
— discussed and agreed as a family what to do with her after

Is there anything else that you wish you would have thought about or decided on before hand when you were going through saying goodbye? I’ve done it once before and I honestly don’t remember parts of it.. I think I was just in a daze. My heart goes out to any of you reading this who are in that place now. Take care 💛

Attempting to prepare myself… is there anything you wish you would have arranged before you had to make the final decision?
