Fishing line confused me way more than I expected

I went into a tackle shop thinking i'll just grab fishing line quick and go. left standing there like… why are there like 3 main types and they all feel the same in my hand 😅

mono was what the guy first pushed on me. said it's basic, forgiving, stretches a bit so you don't mess up every hook set.

fluoro was "invisible underwater" apparently. sounds good but it felt a bit stiff when I handled it and a bit more expensive than I expected.

braid felt completely different tho. super thin but strong, like way stronger than it looks. but no stretch at all so I guess you actually feel everything, good and bad.

honestly the more he explained the more I realized it's not really "which is best." it's just what you're doing that day.

I even went online after, checking prices on random sites and amazon and stuff, even stumbled on alibaba listings where it looks like the same lines just rebranded or sold in bulk.

still don't think I'm "pro" at picking line or anything. just feels like one of those things you only really understand after you mess up a few times on the water.

Thought any plastic would work but turns out I was very wrong

Last week I nearly ruined a small project over something I didn’t even think mattered.

I’ve been trying to get into basic electronics, just small builds at home. So I decided to make a simple power box for my room setup, I spent hours getting the wiring right, double checking the connections, making sure everything worked safely.

When it came to the casing, I didn’t think twice,I already grabbed a random plastic container from a store nearby and It looked solid enough, closed properly, and everything fit inside. That was good enough for me.

It worked… for about two days.

Then I noticed a faint smell, it was not strong, just enough to make me open it up again. One side of the plastic had slightly warped, right where one of the components sat. Nothing melted completely, but it definitely didn’t look the same as when I started.

I started digging online, trying to understand what went wrong, and I kept running into conversations about electronic plastic and how some are designed to handle heat, others aren’t. In a few threads, people even mentioned Alibaba when talking about sourcing materials and how two plastics that look identical can behave completely differently under real use.

That honestly surprised me.

I always thought if it fits and closes, it’s fine, Now I’m wondering, how do people actually choose the right plastic for electronics? Is there something specific you look for, or is it just experience over time?

Would really appreciate any insight, because clearly I missed something important here.

What is your actual backup plan for when you can no longer afford to pay for your supply?

I am currently paying $375 a month for compounded tirzepatide since I have zero insurance coverage. I am making it work for now, but my budget is incredibly tight and it is starting to cause a lot of stress. I have already cancelled all my streaming subscriptions and I basically never eat out or go to movies anymore. My social life has pretty much disappeared because I am terrified of spending money that needs to go toward my next refill.

I am constantly worried about what happens if I lose my job or if the pharmacy decides to raise their prices next month. For those of you paying out of pocket, how are you actually managing the math? Do you keep a separate savings account just for your vials or do you use an HSA to cover the cost? I am even considering skipping a dose every few weeks just to create a small buffer so I do not run out of money. What is your strategy for when you hit a financial wall and cannot afford the next shipment?

I hit my goal weight 3 months ago. I feel great. My A1C is normal. My blood pressure is normal. Everything is good. My endocrinologist says I should plan to stay on Mounjaro indefinitely. "Obesity is a chronic disease," she says. "You wouldn't stop your blood pressure medication just because your BP is normal. Same principle." I get the logic. But I'm 35. That's potentially 50 more years of weekly injections, refrigeration, prior authorizations, and side effects. That’s fifty years of building my life around a medication.
