Favorite unreleased and/or unavailable albums? And why was it never finished or released?

Beach Boys - Smile

The greatest Beach Boys album, and it was never released. Unfortunately Brian Wilson's mental health heavily deteriorated over the course of recording, and so did the patience of his band mates. So it was scrapped and replaced with the much simpler and lofi Smiley Smile. Smile was later remade by Brian on his own, but by 2004 his voice was just too far gone to match the original vision. Luckily all of the original sessions are available on streaming

Geese - A Beautiful Memory

Before they were signed, Geese had an album and an EP up that they made in highschool/university. As soon as they were signed to a label, they removed all of these songs from all streaming services. Luckily the album survived because the band was generous enough to share the files to dedicated fans. Unfortunately the EP (Bottomless Pink Lagoon) is still completely lost except for a few clips that have emerged from internet archive and a podcast that they let the host use the music for as an intro. But other than that it is considered lost media

Weezer - Songs From The Black Hole

This one is weird because what we ended up getting was just as good as the lost album, but I wish I had a way to listen to both easily. After Weezer's hit debut album, Rivers decided to make a grand, sci-fi themed rock opera about slacker 20 year olds going to a distant planet to save it from being swallowed by its own sun. The main character (Jonas) ends up having a big love triangle with the girls in the crew, and gets one pregnant. When they go home they realize that with the new child they dont have enough resources for everyone on board, so Jonas decides to stay behind on the planet and get swallowed by the sun to save his friends and daughter. Rivers then underwent a horrible leg surgery, isolation from almost everyone from going back to university, and on top of that his bassist released a successful sci-fi inspired album before Rivers finished his. So he scrapped the rock opera idea in favor of a more raw, personal and emotional album in Pinkerton

Having problems with the audio output. If you crank the volume as high as it can go you can faintly hear the record but its extremely fuzzy and distorted. As demonstrated in the video, touching the connections on the cartridge makes a buzz so I dont think its a problem with the internal electronics, just with the cartridge

Is there anything I can check before buying a new needle? I'm really strapped for cash currently and would like to repair this cartridge if possible

(DISCLAIMER: I still love all of these albums)

12 Country Greats by Ween: The best part about it is that Ween were super serious about making it a really solid country album. Its biggest flaw is that its such a serious country album that it alienates their non country fans

Trout Mask Replica by Captain Beefhart: this album is a classic because of how bizarre it is. Its biggest flaw is that its too bizarre for most people to listen to

Pinkerton by Weezer: The best part about this album is that it is extremely raw and honest. The biggest flaw in this album is that Rivers gets a little TOO honest on it
