Favorite Full Site Editor Themes?

The main themes recommended to me starting out were Astra, GeneratePress, and OceanWP. However, I'm trying to find themes that allow full site editing, and it looks like these are classic editing only.

What themes do you find the most effective/versatile short of building your own completely from scratch?

Favorite Canva font for Instagram reels?

I know some people who think the Edits app produces stronger reels for Instagram, but I prefer creating reels on Canva. However, someone suggested that I look for fonts that would give a similar feel to the native Instagram reels, so I was wondering whether anyone's got a favorite font to use for that kind of content!

Argentine or Odorous Ants?

Located in South Carolina. Entered a home through a crack in the window to swarm a crust of PB&J that had been overlooked and left out. Under 3mm in length & all uniform in size, but exact measurements unavailable. No description of the odor available. Best guesses are Argentine or Odorous, but unsure which one.

Social Media Feeds to Email?

There has GOT to be a way to get Facebook & Instagram feeds from public pages sent as a combined digest to my email. Has anyone figured this out?

NOTE: I imagine this has been asked before and tried searching, but the search terms must be too generic because they are turning up a ton of irrelevant posts.

Spartanburg County Bucket List?

What are some places around Spartanburg County that you want to visit at some point but just haven't yet? Not the places that everyone's already done, but the ones you've thought looked or sounded cool but you haven't gotten around to checking out yet.

PayPal Personal vs Business for Self-Employment?

TLDR: Is a personal or business account better for a very small self-employment situation?

FULL CONTEXT & QUESTION:

I am just getting started as a digital freelancer (mostly web design & content writing) and have just created an LLC. I've historically just used my personal PayPal when I was operating as a sole proprietor accepting payments under my own name, but I am wondering whether I ought to create a PayPal business account now that I'm operating under an LLC.

Things I'm trying to think through...

  1. Public-facing name would obviously be better with a business PayPal, as I could use my business name & not my personal name (plus my random username that I've had for ages).
  2. It'd create a clear separation between income/expenses for the business & all the personal transactions occurring on my personal account, which might be helpful for tax/liability purposes.
  3. I do worry about additional transaction fees under a business account, though, and whether having a business account might create a whole lot more strings & headaches that might not be worth it when I usually only have a couple business transactions a month.

Do any you have experience using PayPal personal & business accounts that can share what the setup process was like, whether you think it's worth it or even necessary, or potential pitfalls?

Elementor vs Gutenberg (Block Editor)

I've gotten pretty comfortable with WordPress's Block Editor (Gutenberg) but have heard a lot of people recommend Elementor. What are the major differences between the two, which one do you prefer and why, and do you think it's important to learn / be able to use both?

Great Proofreading Plugins?

No matter how much I proofread, I continually discover obvious typos after publishing. I'd love to have a proofreading plugin that I can run as a quick final step before hitting that "Publish" button.

Is anyone using a simple plugin for this that you like, either in WordPress or in your browser, or have you found another simple strategy to make sure you don't miss anything anymore?

Tried searching, but most relevant post I could find was 7 years old.

What's the best thing that's happened to you this week?

I don't know about you all, but I joined this community in the hopes of finding fellowship, encouragement, and the occasional advice. I'm seeing a lot of heavy hearts as I scroll through the feed, and while I don't have answers to everyone's specific situations, I do wonder whether others could maybe use some general encouragement as much as I could! So I'm asking...

What's the best thing that's happened to you this week as a stay-at-home mom?

It could be something that...
✨ Made you smile
✨ Helped you remember your "why"
✨ Gave you new hope for the future
✨ Or anything else!

I'll start: I made a big chunk of progress on both housework AND work-from-home projects. It's rare that I make progress in one area without falling behind in another, so that's a major win at our house!

Web Development WITHOUT Computer Science Background

  1. How practical is it to get into elementary web development without any background in computer science? (In case it makes a difference for the case, background would be in copywriting with limited graphic design.)
  2. Assuming someone's already earned a totally irrelevant degree & has no desire to go back to college, what would you recommend for a comprehensive & affordable introduction to web development? (Not just "search YouTube," but your favorite in-depth YouTube playlists, free or cheap online training programs, maybe even paid professional certification programs, etc.)

Using parent/child pages, categories/subcategories, tags to organize post library

I'd love some examples of how you chose to use parent/child pages, categories/subcategories, and tags to organize a large post library.

For example, I've found a lot of sites cover a lot of different categories AND a lot of different regions, and I've seen different ones opt to put location data in either tags or categories.

I'm curious what kinds of organizational lines you've found helpful to draw in your sites and what website mechanics you use to separate/sort/filter your posts accordingly.

Getting Started with LocalWP

Hi everyone! Brand new to WordPress. I'm about 25% of the way through Yoast's free WordPress for Beginners course, and I'm constantly pausing the tutorials to chase rabbit trails.

One of the rabbit trails finally led me to discover LocalWP, and I'm just wondering if that's the best place for me to get practice with WordPress. If so, I'd also love to know...

  1. Are there any tutorials you'd recommend specifically for LocalWP?

  2. Are there any major pitfalls to avoid when getting started with LocalWP?

  3. What do I need to know about building out an entire website on LocalWP and then migrating it out if/when I decide I'd like to actually go live with one of the ones I've built?

I've found some general guidance just by searching, but I'd really like to get more specifics before I make a major blunder or get too far into it only to realize some major limitation.
