Velotric finally has a fix for failing GoMad chargers

Just wanted to give a heads up cause I haven’t seen anyone mention it: ever since the GoMad released, the chargers have been failing at a decent rate. The fail case has them unable to charge batteries to 100%, and diminishes further - typically unable to charge past 80%, then ~60%. I’ve had three chargers fail, going through the warranty process each time. It’s honestly been really annoying cause I can’t count on ever having enough charge; I’ve found myself bringing my second battery with so I at least have the equivalent of a full battery if charge.

With my last failure a couple weeks ago, I went through the same warranty hoops of videos and pictures, and they came back saying it was approved and they’d send replacements again. I asked if they had actually addressed the root of the problem yet, and surprisingly they said yes, that there is now a revised charger.

They showed up yesterday and lo and behold, it’s definitely a new model of charger. The case is different (so if you used the wall mount from the original charger, that won’t work anymore, and, it doesn’t have a wall mount for this new model either), and even the LED setup is changed too.

Used both of them yesterday to charge my two batteries and it took them both to 100% without issue. Hopefully this will finally be the end of the drama and I can go back to actually trusting the bike!

My FM Towns Vain Dream 2 English Translation is coming together!

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3U27sJRa2pc

After watching the always-excellent Basement Brothers video (   • The 16-Bit JRPG Where You Start the Game M...  ) on Vain Dream 2, I was bummed to discover there wasn't an english translation for either platform. I'm a sucker for the more super obscure JPN-only JRPGs, especially on the computer focused platforms.

So.. I decided to do something about that! I'd always wanted to take a crack at doing a translation, especially for a more obscure game, so this seemed perfect. This is a quick preview of where things are currently at. With all the stuff I've built for this, I'm hoping to tackle some other Glodia stuff next. I decided to do the FM Towns version because it's A) something I've barely touched, and B) that version looks better to me, but that's highly subjective :)

!!!! I need help with the actual translation of the script! I don't speak Japanese! While I've got the game "100% translated", its machine-translated. It's fully playable, and you can tell what's going on, but it's obviously not ideal. My focus was on all the heavy lifting required to be able to take a translated script and actually make it work in game, such as...

  • Added 1-byte English text encoding.
  • Exporter for the entire game script, UI strings, etc.
  • Patched the game to render a native half-width font across the various UI screens.
  • Reworked the archive/scene system to remove the original per-scene text size limits - this was a major pain and easily the most difficult part of the project so far, but is finally wrapped up... hopefully probably, assuredly
  • Built a full translation + validation pipeline that feeds all the dialogue, menus, items, and UI text into the build.
  • Build automation to push a static page on Github Pages tracking the current translation status of each line across the various dats, along with a "Suggest" button that auto-fills a Github Issues template to create a workflow for users to contribute translations (and an easy way to incorporate them back into the build via github actions)

This sub has essentially turned into the dumping grounds for his self promotion of daily videos. It’s a sea of “BIG DECOMP ENERGY” banners. Does this sub actually have moderators? The majority of comments on his posts are people tired of it.

Maybe a basic rule on limited self promotion? At this point we might as well just set up an rss feed on romhacking.net to auto post here for the same level of “engagement”.
