To get in the spirit, I decided to make a touque with a little pumpkin spice.

I found this vintage pattern that I thought could be fun, given the removable skirt and huge sleeves. The fabric is from Michael’s and the hair is a work in progress. This doll has streaks that reminded me of Bride of Frankenstein.

“Barbie Loves the Improvers” came up in a conversation, and I completely forgot about that costume! So, what do you think? Was this the inspiration for the latest release?

She’s very pretty, but I was hoping to get the blonde one with bangs. I look forward to trading when more are in circulation.

Bessie Coleman is on sale for less than $12 USD. She is gorgeous! I redressed mine in Holiday Voyage, which is period appropriate. Do you love her too?

I really appreciate the attention to detail in the dolls in this series, especially in this case. The suit, the scarf, the little beauty mark. Everything the packaging is amazing!

Walmart has some very good deals on some of my favorites. If you don’t have a Bessie Coleman in your collection, you’re missing out on a beautiful, articulated figure in a great costume and representing a real hero!

She’s slowly getting better! I have been using benzoyl peroxide. Pro tip, I learned that if you switch methods (peroxide, Barkeeper’s Friend, CLR, etc, is can leave black stains. So, I am sticking with this method. What has your experience been? I would be super keen to do a comparison experiment if I could find a batch of free or affordable vintage heads with green ear.

I wanted to try to make a tribute style with my limited hair skills.

Simplicity pattern and mod fabric came together in a new outfit. I don’t have a lot of outfits for her, but I’m working on a collection.

I made this last night with an old Simplicity pattern and a fat quarter of this cool fabric.

I have seen lots of warnings from multiple sources that even modern Barbies can get “green ear” from metal posts. I take them out now and store them in a little bag. I would love to find a source for plastic replacements, and I saw something cryptic about making them from thick fishing line and hot glue. Anyone make earrings from materials other than metal?

I’m going to my first ever doll show tomorrow. What advice would you give to a first time attendee?

Does anyone else have her? Mrs Beasley is missing her hands, but she has her iconic glasses. Any thoughts about how to make new hands?

Just received her today and she’s awesome! I need to get some protectant on her pleather right away, and she needs a little hair wash, but I think she’s fantastic!

I thought her hair needed a little more volume on top to look like she did in the video the doll is modeled after. What do you think?
