Weapon data: No real difference in damage per bolt between level 0 xbow and lvl 25 xbow.

Before getting into this, yes I have nothing better to do tonight.

A lot of people, myself included, have asked what exactly proficiency means. I think we all agree and understand that it impacts rolled weapon level, which in turn determines maximum values for each weapon type's special attributes, as well as odds for higher scaling on those attributes.

Anyways, the two things I wanted to test:

  1. Does player/enemy level delta impact damage dealt?
  2. Does weapon level impact raw damage-per-bullet?

Setup

I chose to use the Repeating Crossbow, since I could reliably fire a single, non-charged bolt with a single quick trigger pull.

When wanting to test 0 proficiency, I enabled the Carcosan modifier Growth Incapacitor II. To test 25 proficiency, I switched it off.

When testing 25 proficiency, I restarted until getting Piercing Bolt, since I found the damage over time from Razor to skew the numbers too much. Tests with 0 proficiency never had any weapon traits.

Answering question 1

I enabled the Carcosan modifier that reduces lucenite needed to level. I started a run from the first biome, at 0 proficiency, and counted how many shots it took to kill each enemy type. I collected lucenite to level up, but collected no other weapons or artifacts.

After clearing everything, being level 23 with a level 0 weapon, it still took the same amount of shots to kill anything. So, I don't think player level vs enemy level impacts damage. At least in this rough test.

Answering question 2

I start from the first biome, shoot enemies 50 times, then immediately return to Passage. I look at the "Damage dealt" stat in the run summary for my primary weapon, divide it by 50, and record the number as damage per bolt.

I do this 10 times at proficiency 25 with Piercing bolt, making sure no other enemies are around to accidentally count the damage twice, and then 10 times at proficiency 0.

The final averages were 3.5 damage per bolt at level 25, and 3.4 damage per bolt at level 0, so a variance of a little less than 3%. Considering how rough the methodology was, you could probably conclude there's no real difference in damage. I didn't control for things like enemy defense, weak point or stagger damage, or potential damage fall-off over range. I hoped shooting them 1000 times would smooth the numbers.

I also did several runs where I went out and shot one of the worm turret enemies a single time, and then returned to Passage. The displayed Damage dealt every single time, regardless of proficiency level, was always 3. So, 3.4ish rounded sounds about right.

Current theory, then, is that neither player nor weapon proficiency level has any direct impact on base damage calculations. For people like me who get anxiety when given a choice with ambiguous weights to either side, I hope this data helps you.

Praise the sun.

Good sub for DIY repair options and info?

I've decided to replace my CX, so since it's going to get tossed out anyways I thought I may as well have some fun learning and trying to fix it.

I know I can't fix the delamination issue, seen along the top, but I'm wondering if the cause of those horizontal dark lines is something with the board/voltage, and whether a person with experience working with small electronics and circuit boards, like myself, could do anything about it. They pop in about 15 seconds after turning the TV on for the first time each day, which is what made me wonder if it was something to do with a part of the board "warming up."

If anyone here is familiar with that sort of thing, or knows of a good subreddit to look to, I'd appreciate some feedback/guidance!

Anybody else try staring at the sun/black hole lots of times, expecting something to happen?

I tried at so many different points throughout the game, and sometimes it felt like something was about to be different - but it never was.

I'm a little disappointed about that - did anyone else find any situations where it did something, besides focusing your camera?

I just this moment finished the final episode of the show, for the first time

And what, now - they expect me to simply make dinner, feed the dogs, re-lace my hoodie and go to bed? Through these tears?

I'm so grateful my family encouraged me to watch the show, and it turned out to be so much more than I thought it was. If there is any other supplemental content, or fun insights you'd want to share with a first-time watcher, I'd love to know!

Otherwise, just putting out some more positivity and appreciation into the air for all of the work and talent that went into creating this.

This may already exist, but any way to see reviews by "players like you?"

Steam knows what games we have, and our playtime, and our ratings of them, and they have a section suggesting "games by players like you."

Is there any way to filter reviews for a game based on the same criteria? If not, I feel like that would be really nice. So often, you see something like a negative review for a metroidvania and they end with "I don't really like platformers, though." or something, and you think "oh ok well I do, so I'm disregarding this review."

Same concept as including hardware with reviews - someone running a potato complaining about performance isn't invalid, but it also isn't relevant to someone with a 5090 (no, I don't have a 5090).

I made it past the gap without air dashing by jumping off the statue's hand. Still proceeding in slow-mo. Seeing how far I can take this.

...Lighthouse?

In the first season, episode 9, they get drug around inside their tent in the woods, and then we hear a fog horn and a light (from the lighthouse, I'd assume) slowly passes over the tent a few times. Is it because he took a bottle off of the tree? The note inside was from 1864, or at least that was the text written on it.
