How do alumni receive original provisional degree certificate and transcript?

I recently graduated and have already joined another institute outside Bhubaneswar. I need to submit my original provisional degree certificate and original transcript for document verification. Since I'm no longer on campus, how do alumni usually receive these documents? What are the steps to be followed to receive a parcel having original documents?

Original documents not issued by previous institute before document verification

I'm joining IIT Bombay as a fresh graduate (joining for PhD). My previous institute has issued official digital documents, but the physical original provisional certificate/transcripts haven't been issued yet. A few students from my institute are in the same situation. During document verification, is this usually okay? Are we given time to submit the originals later if needed? Anyone who's faced something similar at IITB?

P. S. Prev clg is almost at the opposite end of the country so it is very difficult to retrieve it physically for now..

Anyone facing issues with the ASC portal?

A friend of mine who's joining IIT Bombay this year completed the Personal Information form and accepted the declaration multiple times, but the portal still shows Step 1 as incomplete. Because of this, the downloadable forms (declaration, hostel registration, etc.) are not being generated.

Has anyone else faced this issue?

If yes, how did you resolve it? Was it a portal synchronization issue, or did you have to contact the Academic Section/ERP support?

Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks!

Unable to log in to ASC portal

Hi everyone,

I'm a new PhD entrant trying to log in to the IIT Bombay ASC portal.

I successfully changed my initial password and then tried logging in again, but I'm unable to proceed. Every attempt results in "Invalid CAPTCHA response"/ " Access denied response ", even after entering the CAPTCHA correctly and refreshing it multiple times.

Is anyone else facing the same issue, or is this a known problem with the portal? Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Thanks!

Has anyone received the IT login credentials yet?

Hi everyone,

The onboarding page mentions that the welcome email containing the IIT Bombay IT services login credentials will be sent around 15th July for new PG/PhD entrants.

Has anyone received that email yet, or is everyone still waiting?

Just wanted to check if they've started rolling them out or if they're yet to be sent.

Thanks!

Starting a PhD with no industry experience, Am I making the right decision?

I recently completed a 5-year integrated B.Tech + M.Tech in EE from a second-generation IIT and will soon join a PhD programme at an older IIT.

I am 22 and have no full-time industry experience. I tried to get research/R&D-oriented jobs during placements, but things did not work out as I had hoped. Since I am more inclined towards research, I decided to pursue a PhD.

What do you think about pursuing a PhD directly after graduation without any industry experience? Is starting a PhD this early generally a good decision, and what factors should someone in this position consider?

The Emptiness..

So recently, the institute handed us our provisional degrees... After five years of pouring our life essence, blood, sweat and tears, it all amounted to this... a document, an array of pixels which summarizes the entire journey... From jee prep to graduation, we all have come a long way... 5 springs and 5 autumns...

Honestly, I should be feeling happy but there is a strange sense of emptiness that accompanies graduation. Perhaps every ending, no matter how meaningful, leaves behind a quiet silence.

Just one more visit for convocation and IIT BBS will become my alma mater...

Should I avoid joining a PhD because of a supervisor's reputation?

I recently received a fully funded PhD offer under a professor whose research aligns very well with my interests. However, I spoke to one of his senior PhD students, and while he acknowledged that the professor is technically very strong, he also described him as quite difficult to work with. He mentioned things like a demanding management style, long meetings, limited support for conferences, and said that by the end of his PhD he just wanted to graduate and leave.

I'm someone who genuinely enjoys research and don't mind working hard, but I'm wondering how much weight I should give to one student's experience. Has anyone here joined a supervisor despite hearing negative things beforehand? Did your experience turn out to be similar or completely different?

TL;DR: Got a fully funded PhD offer under a technically excellent but reportedly difficult supervisor. A senior student had a negative overall experience. Should I be worried enough to reconsider, or should I form my own opinion after joining?

Update: Thank you all for the thoughtful advices. Reading different perspectives has helped me realize this is less about whether the professor is "good" or "bad" and more about finding the right fit. It also made me appreciate my masters supervisor even more, who gave me independence and continued supporting me even after graduation. I'll speak to a few more students before making my final decision. Thanks again!

Regarding PhD at IIT B

Hello everyone, I have just completed my dual degree from a new IIT and I have been selected for PhD here at IIT B in the electrical department.. Can you guys tell me about the overall research culture here?

I wanted to know more especially regarding:

advisor/student dynamics,

workload and work-life balance,

TA duties,

lab culture,

expectations from incoming PhD students,

and how collaborative/competitive the environment generally is.

I am mainly interested in power electronics so insights from current EE PhD students would be really helpful. Thanks!
