I built DitherEYE—a 100% free, offline Android tool for processing retro dither effects and textures for images & videos (No Subscriptions)
Hey everyone,
As a solo developer, I wanted to share a utility app I’ve been working on called DitherEYE. It is a fully native Android application designed to apply low-fi digital transformations and complex dither matrices to images and videos.
I noticed many indie developers and creators looking for fast, localized tools to test color palettes and generate retro 8-bit/16-bit game assets (like character sprites or textures) right from their phones without relying on heavy desktop software.
How it works & Features:
- 100% Local processing: All algorithms (Floyd-Steinberg, Atkinson, Bayer matrices) run completely offline. No user data leaves the device.
- Zero Monitization: It is entirely free—no paywalls, and no subscription models.
- Video & GIF Support: It doesn't just do static images; it processes video frames natively.
- x2 upscale Feature
[Dev] I built DitherEYE—a 100% offline, native Android app for retro dither, glitch aesthetics, and video/GIF processing!
Hey everyone,
I wanted to share an Android app I’ve been building called DitherEYE. It’s a dedicated interactive terminal for low-fi digital transformations, retro-dithering graphics, and complex glitch aesthetics.
Unlike apps that just use simple filters, DitherEYE uses heavy, authentic algorithms to emulate vintage hardware limitations.
Key Features:
- ⚙️ Engine: Sharp, pixel-perfect downscaling, hardware transformation (flip/rotate), and complex matrix manipulation.
- 💻 Algorithms: Features error diffusion (Floyd-Steinberg, Atkinson), ordered textures (Bayer matrices), and glitch effects (VHS, bad sector, wave modulation).
- 🎨 Customization: Custom palette mapping, manual dodge/burn brush system, and Cinematic Epsilon Glow.
- 🎥 Media & Privacy: Supports video/GIF processing. It's 100% offline—your media stays on your device.

I made a free Android app for applying dithering effects to photos and videos
Hey everyone!
I've been working on an Android app called DitherEYE. The idea was simple: I wanted an app that could apply high-quality dithering effects to photos and videos without needing a computer or complicated editing software.
The app runs natively on Android, so all editing happens directly on your device, and it's completely free.
What it can do
- Apply 50+ dithering algorithms to photos and videos
- Black & white and full color dithering
- Multiple color palettes
- Real-time adjustments while editing
- Control:
- Threshold
- Dither strength
- Pixel size
- Brightness
- Contrast
- Gamma
- Saturation
- Blur
- Glow
- Lighting
- Flip images horizontally and vertically
- Export high-quality results
I built it for people who enjoy retro graphics, pixel art, glitch aesthetics, and experimental image editing. Most mobile apps only offer a couple of dithering filters, but I wanted something with a much larger selection of algorithms and fine-grained controls.
If you enjoy this style of editing, I'd really appreciate your feedback or suggestions for new features.
