Northern California Road Trip

Hiya everyone!

As part of my three-four week California trip. I will be renting a car from San Fran for a few days and going north with the aim of seeing the redwood national state park. What other places should I visit? I am 22, British and will be solo, so I would like to ideally visit places I can meet young people. However this is not a deal breaker as when I go south I guess I will meet a lot of people in the cities.

My plan is to arrive in San Fran Sept 10- get the Amtrak/YARTS to stay two nights in Yosemite- back to San Fran and then rent a car to take up north for a few days, before using the Amtrak to travel back down south and eventually get a flight into Mexico. Any advice would be appreciated! Thanks

Edit: San Fran San Fran San Fran San Fran

Advice needed for a young aspiring actor

Hello guys,

I’m a 22 year old guy who just graduated university. From the ages of 12-15, I got back to back work as a child actor- west end shows, radio, a couple TV scenes. Eventually life got in the way and I decided to take the A-level and university route.

I’m now trying to rediscover my passion for it- and don’t want to waste the ‘talent’ I was always told I had. However the industry seems so hard to get back in to. My question is- what do you think my best course of action is to try and get an agent?

I have been on backstage and Mandy for months, applying for countless student films etc. that never seem to go anywhere. I keep getting told I need a showreel, but the projects available to me on these sites don’t seem particularly inspiring. Should I make a spotlight before applying to agents? How do I decide which agents to contact? I’ve heard the old ‘apply to one’s who don’t have someone like you’ but how do I find agents that aren’t out of my league? Thanks

California Amtrak Trip

Hello all

I am 22-year old from England planning a month or so solo trip through California. I will be getting the California Amtrak pass to travel around the state. I will be mainly staying to cities, as I know it is difficult to reach lots of the natural wonders without a car. However I may rent one for some of the journey as I don’t want to miss out on all of these.

I am trying to do the trip on a very tight budget, which is funny seeing as California is one of the most expensive states. I am planning to meet my partner after the month by crossing the land border into Mexico. I am hoping to stay away from paid accommodations (apart from the occasional hostel) and instead use coachsurfing, camping, and house sitting to sleep.

I know there isn’t a big ‘backpacker’ (the European sense of the word) culture in the US, and not many people ‘backpack’ California. I’ve seen lots of Americans explain to others asking questions how difficult it would be, but I’m determined to do it. I want to meet lots of people and see beautiful places.

Any tips of good routes/recommendations/problems with my idea will be much appreciated, as it is very difficult to find information online. Thanks!

I guess my questions are along the lines of: how difficult will all of it be on a tight budget. Is hitchhiking something that still occurs? I’ve seen lots of posts saying no one will pick someone up. Will it be easy to meet people solo? Is there lots of opportunities for house sitting and couch surfing? Where is the best place to find information on planning the trip? What locations should I definitely not skip? Will I get in trouble if I camp somewhere I’m not supposed to? Thanks
