Underrated City

Im an International student about to graduate, so im looking for a cheap and underrated city (even state) you would recommend to visit. Reason is, i just dont want to be where all my peers have been.

Like, literally anywhere that you could call a "city" with a somewhat decent public transport that you would consider unique enough for a foreigner to enjoy.

Need advice: Rent a car or take train from NYC to Philadelphia

I'll be over in June visiting for the World Cup and will be in NYC for a portion of it. My friend is leaving then I plan to go to just outside Philadelphia to visit family for a few days before flying home from NYC (JFK). My question is whether I'd be better:

  1. To go with my friend to JFK and hire a car to drive to Philly and use it for the few days I'm there, then drive back to JFK and fly home
  2. Take a train from NYC to Philly, then hire a car from that side and drop it off there after the few days then take train back to NYC for flight home

I was originally going to go for 2nd option but the trains are surprisingly expensive each way, like $150-200

Northeast US- kid friendly vacation ideas

We are a blended family with 4 kiddos ages 13-8. We will be coming from Ohio and some of the kiddos live in VT, so will pick them up and then are looking for somewhere to spend a week at.

I have never traveled to this part of the country so I have 0 ideas on where to start. We are wanting to keep the housing budget low, we don’t need anything fancy.

We are looking for somewhere that has lots to explore and maybe even close enough for day drives to other states or places. Would love to be close to water, have lots of kiddos wanting to fish.

Give me all the recommendations on where to start to search for somewhere to stay! We are looking to travel last week of June early July!

Is this area safe?

Some of my buddies and I are looking at an Airbnb in the circled area for a bachelor party. Some of the reviews say the area isn’t very safe. Any thoughts on this area would be appreciated!

Savannah, GA or Santa Fe, NM

My wife and I are taking a trip this summer to celebrate anniversary, her birthday, and her finishing her degree. Looking at a 4ish day trip. We live in Texas (near San Antonio) and have spent a good amount of time in the American Southeast (lived in Baton Rouge for a while) and have taken multiple trips to the American West/Southwest. There are aspects of both regions we love.

Which would you pick and why?

California birthday trip: Carmel and San Francisco, or Carmel and San Diego?

My husband and I are planning a birthday trip for early November (our birthdays are a week apart). I did the drive up the coast from LA to San Francisco back in 2019 and fell in love with Carmel by the Sea when we stopped for lunch, so that’s “my” pick for a few days of our stay.

My husband has never been to California and really wants to see San Diego, but said he could also be convinced to do San Francisco instead. Obviously I would love to be able to do all 3 but realistically, I don’t think we’ll be able to swing it financially or time-wise.

What would you do? Stay in San Diego for 2 nights, drive up the coast (ideally stay somewhere for a night about half way so we aren’t rushed and can enjoy the scenery), then do 2 nights in Carmel

OR

Stay 2-3 nights in Carmel, and 2-3 nights in San Francisco?

San Francisco makes so much more sense logistically, but also don’t want to try to persuade him to go somewhere else on what’s supposed to be *our* trip if he really wants to do San Diego.

Pros and cons of each option?

Couple trip in June.

Hello, going for 18 days. Have posted before as well but now since I have finalized the itinerary I want your suggestions..

Landing in NYC. Will spend 5 or 6 days. Might do a day trip to DC.

From NYC fly to Seattle.

Will spend 3 or 4 days in Seattle as my best friend lives there.

Then thinking of doing roadtrip to LA and back home.

Roadtrip:

Seattle to portland stay a night.

Then to redwood national park. Which is the best most scenic route to go to redwood? Google map shows I5.. 101 is the best but it is not showing it from that route.

Explore and go to SF stay there for 2 days.

Then SF to LA in one go stopping in Monterey, big Sur and Santa Barbara.

Spend 3 4 days in LA and back home.

Thinking of staying in Santa Monica. Is it a good place? Everyone suggested not to stay in downtown LA because there will be many homeless people around at night and not safe.

Any and every suggestion is welcome :)

Road trip from Southern Alberta to Texas

As the title suggests, I’m planning a road trip from southern Alberta, Canada down to Gruene, Texas for a friend’s wedding next year in May. It’ll be mine and my partners first time doing a trip like this into the states so we’re both super excited and trying to figure out what the ‘must sees/dos’ are along the way. Alternatively if you see something I’ve listed below that you think could wait for another trip please let me know!

I know some things may need to be booked pretty far in advance so I thought narrowing down our stops sooner would be better.

We’ll be passing through Montana, Wyoming, Colorado, New Mexico and finally into Texas. We’re thinking of doing five days down, five days back and spending about a week in Texas for the wedding itself. We’ll likely have some flexibility with our schedule to take a couple extra days if needed.

We’re both very outdoorsy and adventurous so I already have most of the national parks noted down, I would love any hike recommendations in or outside of the parks though! Same goes for any other outdoor activities. We’re big on culture, history and food too. I love nature photography so any suggestions on spots for that would be appreciated too!!

I guess any info on passes etc would be helpful as well, I imagine we’d probably do the America the Beautiful pass for the parks but I have no clue about anything else lol

We’ll also be camping with our truck and box camper.

If you managed to read this far, please know I appreciate you immensely!

So far I’ve had a (very) quick look into;

Montana

  • Glacier National Park
  • Road to the Sun
  • Beartooth Highway
  • Montana Dinosaur Trail - Museum of the Rockies (largest t-Rex skull)
  • Lewis and Clark Caverns State Park
  • Gallatin National Forest

Wyoming

  • Mammoth Hot springs
  • Yellowstone National Park
  • Grand Teton National Park
  • Absaroka Range
  • Saratoga Hot Springs

Colorado

  • Mesa Verde National Park
  • San Juan Skyway
  • Maroon Bells Peak
  • Glenwood Springs
  • Rocky Mountain National Park
  • Red Rocks Amphitheater
  • Garden of the Gods/Pikes Peak
  • Royal Gorge Bridge and Park
  • Durango & Silverton Narrow Gauge Railroad

New Mexico

  • Bandelier National Monument
  • Ojo Caliente Mineral Springs
  • Taos Pueblo
  • Santiario de Chimayo
  • Ghost Ranch
  • Cumbres & Toltec Scenic Railroad
  • Bisti/De-Na-Zin Wildnerness
  • Carlsbad Caverns

Travel to Cali from Utah June

We have a trip planned to go to Disney the first week of June. Would I be better off renting an EV, that fits 6 people, (cheapest I can find is $600) or driving my 09 Honda pilot and paying for gas (plus)?

What US city would be more interesting to visit?

I want to go to a concert this fall but I’m not sure what location I’d like to attend. I’m stuck between Dallas, Miami or Seattle. Leaning towards Dallas bc it’s slightly closer but I’ve always wanted to go to Florida. But I’ve heard good things about Seattle. So I’m torn lol. Any opinions? I may be going solo too if my friends can’t get off work so that’s another note although I don’t like letting that scare me even as a woman

Edit: since this is still getting attention, the group I want to see is visiting these cities. I’m not going to one of these US cities looking for a concert if that helps clarify. Other cities they’re visiting are Atlanta, dc, Belmont park in NY (I’ve never heard of that place,) Oakland and Inglewood. I have no desire to go to any of those places lol

8 days east coast

My family and I are visiting the US in late august and among other things we will have 8 days to spend on the east coast. During those 8 we would like to see Washington DC, rent a car there and drive to White Mountain National Park and then to Boston.

Do you have any other recommendations? Should we change our plan somehow?

We would like to spend 2 days in DC and 1 day in Boston, for the rest of the trip we would like to explore nature or historical sites.

Edit: Sorry, I meant National Forest, not park.

Usa round trip advice

Hello, i am planning a trip through the contiguous usa. Right now, the idea is to fly there, buy an old truck with a bed camper, drive an epic grand tour of the nation in 5-6 months, either solo or duo, then importing the truck home to sweden as my project truck. I have drawn a provisional route on a map marked in red, focusing mainly on scenic driving and many stops to hike in national and state parks. This will be during the late spring-summer-early fall of 2030 if my money-saving math is correct.

So what i wanted to ask was;

What are some cool/scenic stops/trails/places along this route apart from the obvious?

Any suggestions on changes to the route or areas i would completely miss out (or waste my time) on driving this way?

I am planning this a few years in advance, trying to do a lot of research early so i dont waste my money or time and have as great of a trip as i can. Any advice is appreciated🙂

Brazilians ask: Wife and myself (36 years old) planning a Denver -> Vegas roadtrip by car. February of 2027. Help me plan this the right way

We will be on a rental SUV and would like to do that road trip the right way and not in a hurry. What are the best locations to sse the nature around the place? What are the best cities to stop by?

I would prefer to sleep on hotels and/or inns.

Is it worthy to stop at salt lake city?

We have around 12 days to do the whole thing - denver - vegas - road trip on these 12 days.

How many days should we dedicate to each (vegas/denver/roadtrip)

Main interest: see beautiful cities/food/sports (nhl and nba)/nature.

I dont like doing trails.

Thanks

First USA trip.. couple

Hello,

We are a couple traveling in June to USA for the first time.

Thinking of landing in nyc..

Nyc to Chicago by road via Niagara falls. I want to do the maid of the mist. Is it worth it?

Then from Chicago fly to LA and come back to home.

Now in LA we want to travel by road to nearby cities to see nature..

My best friend lives in Seattle but I don't think so it is a good idea to add this too in this trip?

Going for 18 days.

P.S. we both are not into history and museums so skipping Washington dc and surrounding areas of nyc.

Also we want to see natural beauty and not just city..
