Calling Masterball rank only decent is delusional, you are delusional, Here is the actual statistical reality of where 180k MB4 players sit on
There are multiple post in the sub with ppl completely mocking mb4 player, calling just beginner stuff and others while statistically speaking, calling Master Ball 4 "bad" or "average" is completely false.
Let's break down the statistical definitions and look at the current ~180,000 Master Ball Doubles player count across realistic player base assumptions (500k and 800k active players), and compare where MB4 stands relative to ranks in games like League of Legends, Valorant, and Rocket League.
Take into account that this game has Official Pokémon Announcement (August 2026): Confirmed 20 Million downloads milestone across Switch and mobile stores
You don't need complex calculus to understand rank distribution—just three basic concepts:
- The Average : Are the players around the center middle point of the skill pool (50th percentile). Exactly half the player base is above it, and half is below it. In competitive ladder games, the average sits squarely in the middle tiers (like Great Ball or low Ultra Ball).
- The Bell Curve (Normal Distribution): A symmetric graph that shows how players naturally spread across skill levels. The vast majority of casual and mid-tier players pile up in the middle peak, while the total number of players drops off sharply as you head toward the extreme ends (Beginner on the left, top tournament pros on the right).
- Standard Deviation: A measurement of how far away a player's rank is from the average.
- Within 1 Standard Deviation: Encloses the central 68% of all players (the main "everyday player" cluster).
- Above +1 Standard Deviation: Puts you in the top 16% of all players worldwide.
- Above +2 Standard Deviations: Puts you in the top 2.3% (elite competitive territory).
- Above +3 Standard Deviations: Puts you in the top 0.13% (world-class / top leaderboard)
Right now, there are roughly 180,000 players in Master Ball Doubles at season peak. Depending on how many total active ladder players exist worldwide, here is where reaching MB4 places you:
| Active Ranked Players Assumption | Master Ball Doubles Count | Percentage in Master Ball | Ladder Percentile | Bell Curve Position |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 500,000 Active Players (Ultra-Conservative) | 180,000 | 36.0% | Top 36.0% | Upper-Middle Tier |
| 800,000 Active Players (Conservative) | 180,000 | 22.5% | Top 22.5% | +0.76 Standard Deviations |
| 1,000,000 Active Players (Moderate) | 180,000 | 18.0% | Top 18.0% | +0.92 Standard Deviations |
| 1,500,000 Active Players (High) | 180,000 | 12.0% | Top 12.0% | +1.18 Standard Deviations |
what this means?
- Even at an extreme low estimate reaching Master Ball 4 puts you in the top 36% of everyone, outperforming nearly two-thirds of the player base.
- At 800,000 active player count, hitting MB4 instantly places you in the top 22.5% (better than 77.5% of players).
- Around 1 million, MB4 sits almost exactly at +1 Standard Deviation (top 18%).
Lets compare it with other games now, so you can see yourself how delusional this sub is:
| Active Player Estimate | Equivalent Top % | League of Legends | Valorant | Rocket League (2v2) |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 500k Active Players | Top 36% | Platinum II | Gold III / Platinum I | Diamond 1 |
| 800k Active Players | Top 22.5% | Platinum I / Emerald IV | Platinum II / Platinum III | Diamond 2 |
| 1M Active Players | Top 18% | Emerald IV | Platinum III / Diamond 1 | Diamond 3 |
Nobody in League of Legends looks at a High Platinum or Emerald player and says, "You're trash, you just played through the tutorial." Nobody in Rocket League calls a Diamond 2 just decent, like most ppl here calls mb4 players, like they only know fundamentals, and thats literally assuming only 500k to 1m players actives when this is Pokemon and has 20m official downloads, this is for sure a really conservative estimate.
Comparison with real players:
| Game & Region | Rank #180,000 Equivalent | Percentile | Active Ranked Player Base |
|---|---|---|---|
| League of Legends (EUW) | Emerald 2 / Emerald 3 | Top ~5.1% | ~3.5 million (EUW Ranked) |
| League of Legends (NA) | Platinum 4 / Gold 1 | Top ~12.0% | ~1.5 million (NA Ranked) |
| Valorant (NA Region) | Diamond 3 / Ascendant 1 | Top ~10.0% | ~1.8 million (NA Ranked) |
| Rocket League (2v2 Global) | Diamond 2 (Div II) | Top ~10.5% | ~1.7 million (Global 2v2 Ranked) |
So I'm sorry you are delusional and only gatekeeping what it good for your Ego, at the lowest estimation still hitting master is an achievement.
If u are master 2 to champions u don't have trash mb4 to feel better about yourself u are already by statistic one of the best players in the world, no reason to trash mb4 to feel better.
Edit: I'm a doctor dealing with epidemiology (statistics stuff) but I'm not math guy so ye i can have some mistake in there
