Timse: a pomodoro timer where skipping the break means typing a code
Hi r/macapps!
I know what you are thinking: another pomodoro app for macOS. But Timse is not just a work timer. I built it starting from the things that were missing in the pomodoro apps I tried, or that I simply did not like, and I decided to make my own from scratch.
The main features:
- You set the session length by turning the dial, or by clicking inside it and typing the minutes. Anywhere from 1 to 120.
- Auto calculated break, 20% of the work time. 25 minutes gives you 5, 50 gives you 10.
- Two levels of break. By default a 4 second breath across the whole screen, which ignores clicks and fades away on its own. In the settings you can switch to the real lock, which covers every display for the whole break.
- A Goals section, where you write down what you want to finish in this session.
- A button that opens Apple Music or Spotify, configurable.
- Smaller things like continuous cycle and sounds.
I want to spend a moment on the break screen, because it is the choice I am proudest of. During my own sessions I often would not stop, either because I did not notice the notification or because nothing actually stopped me. Since I started using Timse that does not happen anymore.
But the lock does not shut you out. A six character code appears on screen, and typing it puts you back to work immediately. You just have to really mean it, instead of dismissing a notification out of reflex. And the break keeps counting down while you work, so you can see how much of it you ate.
If you like keeping track of your work the way the GitHub contribution graph does, there is a widget: when the timer is idle it shows your sessions day by day, and while you are working it switches and shows your goals instead.
macOS 14 and later, universal, sandboxed, signed with a Developer ID and notarized. No account, no analytics, no telemetry: your sessions stay on your Mac.
7 day trial, then €3 one time. Link: https://www.cupertina.com/apps/timse
Happy to answer any questions. The thing I would most like to hear about is the break lock itself: I cannot decide whether it is the right idea or just annoying.
