Hotel Job Listings

It’s time for me to go back to work. I’m in an area with lots of hotels so I’m considering a hotel bartending position.

But all of these listings for hotels are by their respective hospitality corporations. And I have to do a deep dive to figure out WHICH hotel it is! Is it too much to ask for a company to list WHICH property they’re hiring for??

A job search nowadays is difficult enough without spending additional time as a detective.

I’m really just venting. But open to suggestions if you have them..

Talk to me about festival/ event bartending

Trying to decide if I want to move into early hours in fine dining or long hours but profitable event bartending in a large, beachside city.

I’ve done both but it’s been years. I’m also an old-timer in spite of of my “baby bartender” label here…

Anyone have an issue with credit cards being compromised?

I just opened an account with Gemini using Plaid to transfer funds from my Chime account. My Chime card is my “fun funds “ that I use for online ordering, etc. in case it gets compromised so there’s not a lot of money kept in that account.

Immediately the next morning, I had a fraudulent charge from Walmart.com that was declined. Today, a charge for $450 of Chinese food from Grubhub tried to pay (I never use Grubhub), along with a couple of smaller transactions tried to pay. Chime placed a fraud alert on my account so these were denied but a charge for Walmart that I didn’t initiate went through so I’m out a buck fifty while they investigate.

I really don’t know if the two are related but I never use Plaid and these happened right after I opened my Gemini account. Has anyone else experienced this?

(Yes - I froze the card & ordered a new one)

Need some advice on my increasing data usage

I’ve been with USM for over a year now on the Basic plan because I have excellent WiFi. I’m in a hotel for the next few months & the WiFi is spotty so I’m spending $$ to add more data.

My brain is just not working this afternoon & I’m almost out of data again. I’m considering adding more data/ switching plans or maybe getting a hot spot that I can use with my WiFi-only iPad. I did a chat with a very nice support rep but I can’t seem to figure out the best plan of action.

Also, I just renewed my plan. How does USM handle it if you switch plans?

Losing My Mind Because of My Inoperative Door Lock!

I’m coming here to avoid throwing a temper tantrum at the front desk.

Last week, I checked into an extended stay property for the next 6 months. It’s a well-run place in a great location. Last Thursday, my door lock ceased operations. The maintenance man - who is very nice - doesn’t have experience with these door locks so this is a learning situation. Which is fine - I get it; door locks mess up all the time and I just lived with having to be badged into my room every time I went out for the weekend.

Yesterday, a new door lock was attempted to be placed but it wasn’t working. This adventure started at 11am and wasn’t wrapped up until after 5 when they decided to change out the lock with another functioning one from another room & put that room into inoperative.

The key card stopped working this morning. I’ve lost 2 days of being productive because the day before, they turned off the water for the afternoon to work on the boiler and didn’t send out a notice, which I would’ve thought they would do as a courtesy to their guests.

It seems the GM is reluctant to spend the money to hire a door lock technician. At what point do you continue to inconvenience a long-term guest? I don’t want to go over the GM’s head to corporate because I don’t want to have to change rooms. I’m settled in my room, and if moving rooms was a solution, it should’ve happened last week.

I want an amicable solution but I have avoided the front desk today because I am very angry, and that’s not the appropriate way to work this out.

Any suggestions??

How to move stuff without a car…

(Mods - please delete if not allowed). I just significantly downsized after moving to the Riverside area. I’ve got about 20 empty storage bins, a microwave and a tv that I need to put in storage to make room in my place. I rented a storage unit a mile away but I don’t drive so I’m not sure how to get it there. I looked into movers but it would cost me $200 because of the 2-hour guarantee.

I need to get creative - I have friends with large vehicles but I hate having to ask for favors on a Saturday afternoon. Does anyone have a creative solution to this problem? I thought about trying an Uber XL and offering them some $$ if they would help me. I really just need to be picked up at my curb and dropped off at the storage place. The items are just bulky - not heavy. I went to Craigslist where you used to be able to find someone with a truck who you could hire for an hour for these type of situations but only saw professional movers.

I came across an interesting post about how people in NYC move big items but there’s no subway here in Jax.

I’m open to suggestions! Please and thanks!

Worst Ex Ever - Wade Wilson

Does anybody remember Jeremy Meeks, the “Hot Felon” who actually turned his life around after prison and scored modeling contracts, a book deal and a clothing line? I couldn’t help but think of him as I was watching this documentary. And I’m by no means comparing the two because Jeremy was a product of his horrific upbringing and Wade seemed to have been raised by loving, adoptive parents so I believe Wade is an actual sociopath. I’m comparing the two as to their outward appearance and the effect it has on society.

Also, as someone who studies fashion, the bright suits and ties Wade wore were definitely a choice. Who bought these for him? I know that women probably sent him money for the suits but was it his lawyer who arranged to buy these to Wade’s specifications? Did he order clothing online to be delivered to someone and brought to court?
