Beginner Upgrades

Beginner Upgrades

Hey everyone, I’ve been in to listening and collecting for awhile now but I’ve pretty much reserved myself to my lp-120 and some shoddy alesis speakers. I know I’m doing myself a disservice with the speakers alone, so in lieu of buying more records to listen to on a subpar setup I’m finally trying to upgrade. Is it worth buying a pre-amp, new speakers, and new stylus for the lp-120? Is there a noticeable difference upgrading the components that the turntable runs through, and if so what is the logical next step up for a beginner? I know people have pretty polarizing opinions about the 120, but I just don’t think spending 400+ on a table, then a preamp, speakers is in the cards at the moment.

Stoner/Doom reccs

Edit to add: I’m not just looking for stoner or doom; I just don’t know what the actual genre is called - you guys are killing it with the reccs though

Not sure the exact genre or sub genre, but looking for some metal/hard rock stuff that sounds the way fantasy 80s art looks, in the vain of Esteban Maroto and the likes. Stuff about wizards, dragons, warriors in strange lands etc. Been listening to a lot of The Sword, Greenleaf, Valley of the Sun, and Freedom Hawk lately.

Miniatures Worth it?

Hey yall, I’m finally gonna late pledge before it closes. I plan on getting the Scout pledge, as I’m mainly concerned about getting the most game content out of it as I can. I do love have the table presence of minis, but I’ve heard combat isn’t really that integral to the game. To those of you who have gotten the extra monster minis, are they worth getting? Or is it just a big box of plastic that doesn’t get used nearly as much as anticipated. I do love minis, but I feel like maybe the standee monster will work just as well as far as gameplay goes.

Premium Books

I’m still on the fence for backing a late pledge, there’s seems to be a lot of moving parts and bells and whistles and compromises to make to get what you think you’d need or not, my biggest hang up right now is the books. I’m torn between the Scout and Explorer pledge - and while I understand none of this is technically necessary, how necessary do you all feel the premium books add to the experience? I feel like they’d be really great to have, while simultaneously feeling like it’s just another unnecessary cost and that’s “how they get ya”. It’s obviously all personal preference, but I’d love some feedback from those of you who have them, and those who don’t but wish you did, or are glad you didn’t shell out the extra cash. I also don’t really paint minis, not yet anyways, is getting every iteration of them just total overkill, or do the extra figs really make or break the gameplay, or is it really just taking up more space and time on an already massive game?

Late Pledge Fomo

Hello everybody, I’m a little late finding out about this game, and I honestly cannot tell if I’m really into it, or just experiencing fomo. I really enjoy how deep of a narrative story the game seems to tell, I’ve tried getting into ttrpg’s for that exact reason and they just didn’t click the same way playing boardgames do. I know people have started receiving their games, a local shop of mine even has a few different bundles (265 for special edition, almost 800 for the divinum collection), so it seems like they are almost double the price at retail as opposed to a gamefound pledge. If I were to late pledge, when realistically would I actually see this game? Is it worth paying 300 for the special edition? It being so new, should I just wait for more feedback to come in before i go all out and buy this thing? I guess my biggest concern is how big and expensive this game is and it never actually hitting the table because of set-up and tear-down times on top of an already pretty hectic schedule and only really having time to play 1-2 a month.

Beginner 5e Advice

Hello everybody, my partner and I are looking to learn to play 5e (open to other systems as well, but I imagine 5e being the most accessible because of how popular it’s become) and join some casual, beginner friendly sessions to see if it’s something we’d enjoy. We currently play a pretty wide range of board games but are looking to expand into more narrative based ttrpgs. I’ve looked around a few shops and joined a few discord servers to try and find a group or a weekly event that we can join but have not had much luck so far. We live in the Leander area and are typically available Wednesday’s after 5 and alternating Friday and Saturdays. We’re both in our 30s and we have two pretty active kids so our schedule can be a little hectic and demanding at times. I’ve been delving into resources online, trying to absorb even just the basic rules, and watching videos on youtube, but I know actually playing will be the best way to learn. I plan on getting the PHB soon so I can try to make as much sense of the rules and gameplay before I get to a table so I’m not totally derailing a session. If anyone has any tips, ideas, or can point me in the right direction I would greatly appreciate it!
