ZKCBDC Patented by Microsoft

Microsoft Central Bank Zero Knowledge Proof ZKP Currency

Central Bank Digital Currencies face a brutal trilemma: how do you guarantee user privacy, verify the entire banking system isn’t faking balances, and eliminate single points of failure for cyberattacks?

A Microsoft patent from Srinath Setty et al. proposes a solution: zkCBDC.

Today, CBDCs are stuck between two extremes:

* Centralized databases: Good for privacy from the public, but create massive central targets for hackers and lack independent verification.

* Public blockchains: Decentralized and transparent, but expose transaction histories to anyone watching.

Enter Zero-Knowledge Proofs (ZKPs).

In Microsoft’s design, commercial banks act as Provers.

When you make a transaction, your bank processes it internally off-chain. The bank then:

* Hashes the transaction amounts (or batches them together).

* Generates a succinct zero-knowledge proof confirming: "We followed the rules, money wasn't created out of thin air, and balances check out."

The Blockchain acts as the Verifier.

The smart contract on-chain holds only a cryptographic commitment (a root hash) of each bank's state—not customer identities, account balances, or purchase details.

When the bank submits the ZK proof + transaction hash, the smart contract verifies it mathematically in milliseconds.

Who runs the network?

The nodes verifying these proofs are the Central Bank and financial regulators.

They can mathematically guarantee system-wide solvency, prevent double-spending, and audit the entire economy in real time—without ever seeing who bought what at a retail level.

What about moving money between different banks?

The patent uses a Two-Phase Commit Protocol:

* Phase 1: The sending bank processes the debit, submits its ZKP, and locks the state on-chain.

* Phase 2: Once committed, the receiving bank submits its own ZKP to claim and credit the funds.

Zero reconciliation lag, zero counterparty exposure.

It even tackles cross-border FX and bond settlements through atomic Swaps:

* Banks route funds into temporary on-chain escrow/swap accounts.

* Both sides post ZK proofs of the locked assets.

* Once verified, the contract enforces a simultaneous burn-and-mint across both currencies. If either side fails, the whole trade rolls back.

The takeaway: Instead of forcing governments to choose between complete financial surveillance or total black-box banking, ZK roll-up architectures offer a third way.

Math proves the system is honest, while cryptography keeps private financial lives private.

GoPro: Norwegian conscripts guard NATO’s northernmost border with Russia

https://www.nato.int/en/multimedia/multimedia/videos/2026/04/17/norwegian-conscripts-guard-natos-northernmost-border-with-russia

NATO’s northernmost border with Russia is patrolled by Norwegian Army conscripts. Stretching 196 kilometers through Arctic tundra, this remote frontier runs through one of the most inhospitable environments in Europe. In winter, temperatures can drop below -40 degrees Celsius, while deep snow and long periods of darkness make even routine tasks physically and emotionally draining. In these conditions, maintaining constant alertness and situational awareness is essential.

The conscripts operate from a series of remote watchtowers and cabins positioned along the border. Deployed for up to six weeks at a time, they live and work in small units with little contact with the outside world. Isolated from the routines of daily life, they must adapt to the physical and mental demands of prolonged time in the wilderness. From these outposts, they monitor activity across a strategically significant region and maintain a continuous presence on Norway’s frontier with Russia. Their role extends beyond static observation. Moving through the Arctic terrain by ski and snowmobile, they patrol the borderlands in all conditions, deterring any illegal border crossings and demonstrating a continued presence.

Working closely in small teams to defend their territory, they have earned their nickname ‘the Wolves’.

3D Systems - NASA’s latest “State-of-the-Art of Small Spacecraft Technology

NASA’s latest “State-of-the-Art of Small Spacecraft Technology” report may look like a routine technical publication at first glance, but buried inside is a potentially major signal for $DDD and the future architecture of the aerospace manufacturing stack.

The chapter on “Structures, Materials, and Mechanisms” explicitly discusses advanced photopolymers and additive manufacturing systems from 3D Systems and Stratasys for aerospace-grade applications. NASA highlights high-resolution manufacturing, optical-quality parts, extreme temperature resistance, and mission-critical structural fabrication for spacecraft.

That matters because in aerospace, the largest hurdle is often not the technology itself — it is institutional qualification.

This NASA inclusion is highly bullish for 3D Systems because it signals a transition from experimental prototyping toward institutional validation. In practice, NASA is functioning as one of the world’s most important technical gatekeepers for aerospace materials science. When NASA publicly discusses a material platform inside a State-of-the-Art report, it effectively tells the global aerospace industry that the technology has crossed a credibility threshold worth serious consideration.

Historically, additive manufacturing in aerospace heavily favored metals such as titanium or Inconel via powder-bed fusion systems. Polymers were often viewed as too weak, too brittle, or too prone to outgassing — a critical problem in space environments where volatile compounds can damage optical systems and sensors.

NASA’s explicit discussion of advanced aerospace photopolymers changes that narrative.

The report suggests that 3D Systems’ proprietary chemistry and manufacturing systems have reached a level of thermal and mechanical performance suitable for increasingly harsh aerospace conditions, including cryogenic cold, intense solar heating, and demanding structural environments. That is an enormous addressable market expansion because photopolymer systems offer advantages metals often cannot:

faster production cycles,

smoother surface finishes,

finer geometric detail,

optical-quality resolution,

and lighter-weight structures.

NASA’s reference to “optical-quality parts” is especially important.

That directly aligns with 3D Systems’ long-term investment in high-resolution stereolithography (SLA) and Figure 4 technologies. Traditional aerospace optics and sensor housings often require expensive machining, polishing, or custom fabrication processes. If additive manufacturing systems can reliably produce optical-grade or near-optical-grade structures, 3D Systems effectively moves into a niche where many conventional FDM or large-scale metal-printing competitors cannot easily compete.

The implications extend far beyond prototyping.

For years, skeptics argued that industrial 3D-printing companies primarily sold machines for tooling, jigs, or experimental prototypes rather than true end-use production. But NASA’s language increasingly centers on “structural fabrication,” “mission-specific hardware,” and rapidly deployable aerospace manufacturing ecosystems.

That is a fundamentally different business model.

Instead of selling a machine once into an R&D lab, the opportunity becomes recurring consumption:

proprietary aerospace resins,

certified material ecosystems,

software licensing,

maintenance contracts,

process automation,

and distributed manufacturing infrastructure.

NASA’s report also hints at something even larger: the emergence of a distributed orbital manufacturing economy.

The future spacecraft factory may not resemble a traditional centralized assembly line at all. Instead, it could evolve into a network of highly automated additive manufacturing hubs producing mission-specific hardware on demand for satellites, lunar systems, orbital stations, and deep-space infrastructure.

If that future materializes, the strategic value shifts away from raw hardware and toward:

machine reliability,

materials science,

process certification,

and proprietary chemistry.

That plays directly into 3D Systems’ integrated ecosystem strategy combining:

advanced printing platforms,

proprietary resin systems,

3D Sprint / 3DXpert software,

automated workflows,

and aerospace qualification expertise.

For the broader space ecosystem, the implications are equally significant:

$RKLB could accelerate vertically integrated satellite manufacturing,

$ASTS depends on increasingly complex deployable orbital structures,

$LUNR is directly tied to lunar infrastructure buildout,

and $SPCX represents diversified exposure to the expanding orbital industrial economy.

The broader takeaway is that NASA is no longer merely discussing additive manufacturing as a futuristic research concept. The agency increasingly frames it as foundational infrastructure for the next generation of space systems.

And for $DDD, u/3dsystems that may represent the transition from “interesting technology company” to a potentially critical supplier within the future aerospace hardware stack.

The Bitcoin Nonproliferation Doctrine: A U.S.–Iran Grand Bargain

Under such a framework, Washington would offer Tehran a pathway back into the traditional global financial system only in exchange for dismantling its sovereign #Bitcoin $BTC architecture and surrendering its state-linked digital reserves.

The result would amount to a twenty-first century financial disarmament treaty: a doctrine of monetary nonproliferation.
