Important Reminder: OPSEC and External Recruitment Communities

Hi everyone,

We have recently seen some interest in external Discord servers and social media groups focused on candidate preparation (CBAT, DAA, OASC, etc.). While we appreciate that the recruitment process is demanding and that peer support is invaluable, I want to take a moment to address some serious security concerns regarding these platforms.

Why we are restricting the promotion of unvetted external groups:

OPSEC and Data Aggregation: Many of these platforms are completely unvetted. While a post sharing your own CPC date might seem harmless in isolation, aggregating that information across a community of 800+ people creates a clear, mapped picture of candidate flow, training throughput, and recruitment timelines. This is valuable information that should not be centralized in unverified spaces.

Lack of Identity Verification: External servers do not have the mechanisms to verify the identity of their members. This makes it incredibly easy for unauthorized actors to lurk, gather intelligence, or attempt to socially engineer information from genuine candidates.

Protection of Your Personal Data: Sharing specific dates (CPCs, interview boards, start dates) on open or unvetted platforms bypasses the protection of official, secure recruitment channels. Please remain vigilant about what you share and where you share it.

Going Forward:

To maintain the security of our community and the safety of our applicants, we will be limiting the promotion of unvetted external recruitment groups on this subreddit.

Please continue to use official Defence Recruitment channels, your AFCO, or the official candidate portals for any information regarding your specific application or training pipeline. If you have questions about test dynamics, feel free to ask them here—but please do so without sharing personal identifying information, specific dates, or private correspondence.

Stay safe, maintain your PERSEC, and good luck with your applications.

Calling it done. 1/48 Tamiya F-15C painted as Starscream from Transformers G1.

Learnt a lot and had plenty of fun with this. I'm normally a "by the book" modeller, but inspiration struck and I just went for it! Many firsts done as well:

First time tinting canopies (used MIG Ammo Acrylic Crystal Orange).

First time creating, printing and using custom decals (the Decepticon badges on the wings and fuselage).

First time using Army Painter Speed Paint 2.0 markers (cockpit detail, not that you can really make it out through the orange tint!).

Decided to leave it with a gloss finish as Starscream is the sort of narcissist who would insist on looking immaculate.

Intention now is to hang on the wall of my man-cave heading skyward. I might, if/when I get a 3D printer, make some null rays to go on the underwing hardpoints, and, if inspiration strikes me again, I might make some more custom decals for the tail planes.

Everything Must Go! Joe's Exhibition in Birmingham Museum and Art Gallery is worth a visit!

While on a day out in Brum, I stumbled across Joe's exhibition that had opened yesterday in the Birmingham Museum and Art Gallery. My teen kids thought it was brilliant, and I thought the whole thing was great. Free to enter!

Custom scale model of Starscream's alt mode.

So I thought I'd try something a little different. Starscream is based on a Tamiya 1/48 scale F-15C. First time I've printed and used custom decals; I think they look great! Also first time tinting a canopy; not sure if it would look better matt? Still plenty to do (stencils, more decals, undercarriage, varnishing, etc.) but the project certainly seems to have taken a leap forward tonight with a full dry fitting of the major components. Any and all feedback welcome!

Modified scale model of F-15C made as Starscream G1

So as a model maker I thought I'd try something a little different which is based on a Tamiya 1/48 scale kit of a F-15C. Transitioning back to an EV after ICE MOT nightmare – torn between Enyaq, MG5, and IONIQ 5

I’m looking to finally get back into an EV after leasing a Smart ForFour EQ a while back and loving it. Unfortunately, funds didn't stretch to buying an EV upfront when that lease ended, so I ended up stuck with a crappy Ford C-Max as a stopgap runaround. Cue the inevitable MOT quote two years later that's now way higher than the car is actually worth!

So, the Ford is getting ditched, and I’m ready to make the permanent jump back to electric with a budget of under £16k.

This will be our primary, go-everywhere family car (our other car, a Skoda Octavia estate, will become the standby car/dog car/large objects car). It's going to be used constantly for daily duties and transporting the kids everywhere: school runs, activities, trips out, the whole nine yards.

Because of that heavy family use, I'm currently tearing what little hair I have left out trying to choose between three second-hand options: the Škoda Enyaq, the MG5, and the Hyundai IONIQ 5. I could use some real-world advice from owners on a few specific sticking points:

  1. Rear Space for Tall Teens: We’ve got growing kids who are hitting 6 feet, and they need to be carted around everywhere. Back-seat comfort is a massive priority. From what I can gather, the IONIQ 5 and Enyaq have incredible legroom where adults/tall teens can easily stretch out. How does the MG5 stack up in comparison? Does it feel like a squeeze across the back for three people?
  2. Warranties & Battery Health Anxiety: I want to keep this car long-term as our main workhorse, but I’m really wary of buying higher-mileage examples that are getting close to maxing out their battery or general warranties. All three cars have the standard 8-year/100,000-mile high-voltage battery warranty (guaranteeing >70% health), but general manufacturer warranties vary wildly. For instance, I know MG offers a transferable 7-year/80,000-mile warranty, whereas a 2022 Enyaq or IONIQ 5 is mostly past its standard 3-to-5-year bumper-to-bumper cover. I've been looking at sub 50k miles; am I being too cautious?

Given my budget constraint and heavy family use case, how would you rank these three? Are there any specific pitfalls, battery sizes, or trims I should specifically target (or avoid) to keep maintenance headaches away?

Appreciate any thoughts or experiences you can share!
