Kyoshi's "perfect" Team Avatar.

Ok so, here's a thought experiment I've been partaking in since re-reading the novels last month:

How do you think the timeline needs to shift for Kyoshi to, ideally, get a 'perfect' team avatar?

Not a perfect life, just a team. And by that I mean a master of every element by her side, so it'd have to include: Yin, Rangi, Kelsang, and Kirima. Or that's my take, maybe you think another combination works (Replace Kelsang with Jinpa, for example?).

And specifically, I mean the timeline of the novels. Events can only shift from the moment Kelsang told Kyoshi she may be the avatar. Do you think telling Jianzhu earlier would've helped? Maybe if Kyoshi demonstrated firebending after being found out? Mayhaps Jianzhu deigned to save Yun from Father Glowworm?

I repeat, just in case: I don't mean a perfect life. Just a complete, somewhat stable Team Avatar, which she never really got.

[Excerpt - The Rise of Kyoshi] 'The stagnant pool is immortal.'

I'm kinda tired of people who haven't read the novels assuming the immortality technique Kyoshi ends up using later in life is earthbending. So I'm gonna post this little exchange between Lao Ge and Kyoshi about it for further reference and sharing. It's interesting because it even seems to imply it's not a spiritual technique, but purely something born of force of will.

>“Anything for my dear student. You see, it all comes down to maintaining order. Keeping things neat, clean, and tidy.”

>“Excuse me?” This was genuinely offensive to Kyoshi, as a former housekeeping servant. [...] What did he know about tidying up?

>“Aging is really just your body falling apart, on the smallest, most invisible levels, and neglecting to put itself back together,” he said. “With the right mental focus, you could take an inventory of your own body and place each little piece that’s not where it should be back into the correct order."

>Kyoshi had to assume he was tailoring his lessons to her background and that the real process was much more complicated. “The way you describe it, you’d have to decide what version of yourself you’d be stuck as, forever.”

>“Exactly! Those who grow, live and die. The stagnant pool is immortal, while the clear flowing river dies an uncountable number of deaths.”

>“Is that another proverb of Shoken’s? Because it doesn’t sound like any spiritual lesson I’ve heard.”

>“It’s my proverb,” Lao Ge whined, his feelings hurt again. “All this fretting about spirits. I’m trying to teach you about the mind. An infinite world that’s been neglected by far too many explorers.”

Edit: Forgot about the second scene where this is discussed. Yes, a block of stone is mentioned--but Kyoshi makes the analogy, not Lao Ge. Again, the technique is rooted in Earthbending philosophy, but Earthbenders can't bend fucking FLESH.

> “This isn’t spiritualism,” he said. “You don’t have to believe. You simply have to practice.”

> He’d taken her to the same spots that a guru would meditate in, the curves of flowing rivers, the stumps of once-massive trees, caves bored into the cliffside. But he’d also filled her ear with counterintuitive nonsense.

>“Instead of blocking everything out like how you would normally meditate, take it all in,” he said while they rested in a meadow on their way to Taihua. “Notice each blade of grass in the same moment you would notice a single one.”

> “I would have to have a thousand eyes to do that!” she’d snapped. He shrugged. “Or an infinite amount of time. Either would work.” The riddles never ceased while they prepared for Te’s assassination.

>“Divide your body in two,” he said, while she practiced heating and breaking a piece of scrap metal.

>“Then divide it again, and then again, and again. What would you have left?”

>“A bloody mess.” She burned her hand and yelped.

> “Exactly!” Lao Ge said. “Put the pieces back, and put them back again, and again, and again one more time, and you’re whole once more.”

>“A human being isn’t a block of stone,” she said, showing him her reddening thumb for emphasis.

> “That’s where you’re wrong. The illusion that the self is separate from the rest of the world is the driving factor that limits our potential. Once you realize there’s nothing special about the self, it becomes easier to manipulate.”

The gods should get a hobby

Like. Siblings. I've taken care of two dozen of this guy already. Do you think he enjoys coming back for about 5 seconds of getting bodied every other minute as I make my way through holy mountains?

Audio problems after update/installation?

Hey, new to this whole linux thing. Installed mint xfce on an old-ish laptop and the whole process went dandy - Until the update manager updated like 140 things and asked to restart. Then the speakers stopped being recognized and it became "dummy output" for some reason.
I did a system recovery to before said updates and audio is back, so clearly one of the updated things breaks it. Any tips? I looked online but none of the things I tried worked.

Also, how the hell is the "--user" command supposed to work? No matter what I try it says "command not found". I tried user, my username, my username as shown in the user settings, etc.

Talk to me like I'm 5 cuz I really have little to no idea how this works, please.

Update: The audio appears to have been a kernel thing! I saw a post online with a similar problem and uh. Blacklisted the kernel update. Or ignored it I guess? Then updated and audio still works, yay!

User thing still doesn't and honestly if there's a fix for the kernel thing I'd love to know. If not I guess I'll mark this as solved in a while or smth.

I am very smart

First time in 400 hours I realized giga sawblade can cut through holy mouuntains, so I was experimenting with long distance cast and, as you can see, I am very deserving of that crown and amulet

first daily win

So in the months I've been playing noita I never really did dailies cuz, uh. idk it never ocurred to me. But now that I've got most of the stuff you can do done I decided to star trying them.
I've had horribly embarrassing deaths in the past few days, perfectly avoidable and 100% skill issues, but today I managed.

wand build help

2nd god run in a row (hopefully I won't die to polymorphine. again) and my damage wand is pretty much standard, i can use omega saw blade if need be, but I'm asking more about my travel wand.
It currently lets me move at fighter jet speeds and dig almost as fast (yes, game's crashed twice, it's a risk I'm willing to take), but I'd like to somehow also put circle of vigor in there while still being able to move that fast and not run out of mana. I've tried a few different things but none of 'em work, so... any wand expert here would like to give me a few tips?
here's what I've got to work with:

I can also go to the sky/hell work shops to get something else I guess? Or go to wandmart.

And this is why you always grab [Spoiler]

https://i.redd.it/09uqhz2noo4h1.gif

And this is why you should always take the time to >!do the cessation quest halfway to get Sea of Mimicium.!< Transform a single pixel of lively concoction into infinite health (god, creating the lively concoction and getting a single pixel was annoying. I forgot to save the moment I got it).

Also works wonders for ambrosia and >!world travel!!< Got a single bottle? Spraying a bit every time you move through cursed rock is annoying? Don't worry, even if you don't have the greek letters (you should look it up) a single cast of sea of mimicium (make sure you go high and have lots of space below you) as you dig and a bit of ambrosia will last you an entire dig!

(This is mostly meant as advice for people who are just getting started with post-tutorial stuff)

Uhm. Guys? Who took my lake island?

https://i.redd.it/id6sj55u0d3h1.gif

I went to try to grab the essence and the island just. Isn't there. But the sheep altar thing where the deer boss spawns is so this is definitely base world.

I'm really regretting dropping that fire stone I used before getting fire immunity now.

First Circle of Vigor/fast teleport wand

Processing img 2i54gikzpw1h1...

I've been playing this goddamned game for 300 hours. I've seen circle of vigor maybe 4 times in that runtime, and I've never until now been able to take advantage of it. Seen a lot of youtuber clips with this setup and now I'm proud to show: I have it too!

not. not entirely sure why I'd want to mix my movement wand with the healing. Saving space? But hey, I did it! yay!

Don't try circle of vigor with, uh, damaging spells on your wand. Almost died to that.
