Am I doing myself a disservice?

Hello all! I was given a box full of Marples chisels, gouges and old Stanley planes that are rusted to hell and back. I love restoring things so I figured I’d restore these and then use them to start my wood working journey.

Problem I’m having mentally is that I’m wondering if this is doing myself a disservice considering I’ll not know what a proper chisel/gouge feels like and just think that however good (or bad) I restore these is “normal”.

Debating if I should just purchase the tools I want instead of hoping I restore them good enough be good representations of what each tool should feel like.

Maybe someone here can relate or give some advice. Thank you for your time!

Utility Vehicle Debacle: Minivan vs Small Truck

My wife and I are stuck trying to decide between these vehicles for our needs:

1: I’m a musician that hauls equipment around for shows
2: We have a lot of dirty work around our property (taking brush to the dump, picking up mulch/soil, etc…)
3: We like to go on long trips to go hiking so comfortability over a long ride is important
4: We have no kids but have a dog and will likely obtain another at some point
5: would like to tow a camper around

Minivan seems good for point 1, 3 and 4 but point 2 and 5 are glaring weaknesses for a minivan.

With this criteria, does it make more sense to get a small truck (Ranger, Canyon, Colorado) or a minivan (odyssey, Pacifica, sienna)?

We’ve never owned either type of vehicle before, just a midsize SUV in the past but don’t care for SUVs. Right now we’re doing all this with an Impreza and it’s driving me fuckin nuts.
