My 2nd Project: 300ZX Turbo

Here's my 1985 Nissan 300ZX Turbo. I bought it a couple months ago from the 2nd owner. It had sat in his front yard under a tree for 7 years. During that time, a tree limb had fallen and busted the windshield, and apparently caused a little more damage than I expected.

My oldest son and I had just finished my 1982 280ZX that I personally let sit up for 20 years in a garage, so we figured this 300ZX would be the perfect next project.

It didn't take us long to get the car running and driving. The time consuming part started when I took the windshield cowl trim off to see how things looked before I booked a windshield appointment. It was much worse than I expected.

We have no experience in fabricating, welding, or body work, so this was a "learn by doing" experience. I'm sure we didn't do everything 100% by the book (if there's a book, can I borrow it?), but we're happy with the results so far.

If you want a more in depth look at either of the projects, check out my youtube channel at Birdz Garage.

Hope you like it! Windshield is supposed to be installed tomorrow!

I'll keep the updates going as we progress.

An Update on my 300ZX

The entire windshield cowl was rusted out, as well as a few spots in the roof. It's been a long, tedious process. I jumped in with 0 knowledge or experience in fabrication or body work and have just been winging it.

My 1985 300ZX Turbo

Hey everyone, I wanted to introduce myself and my 300ZX.

First, I am the owner of a 1982 280ZX Turbo. As a short TLDR on the 280ZX, I've owned it for over 20 years and let it sit up since 2006. In February of this year, my oldest son and I decided to get it running again. We started our own Youtube channel so friends, family, and fellow enthusiasts could follow along.

Once the 280ZX was finished, we decided to get another project. That's where the 300ZX comes in. The previous owner was the second owner of the car. He bought it in 2013 and drove it until 2019. According to him, life got in the way and the car sat at a friend's house until last year when he moved back in the area. During that time, a tree limb fell and busted the windshield, the clear coat gave up, and the car sat abandoned. He didn't attempt to start the car and just wanted someone to buy it as is.

I was given a book with every receipt for everything that has beem replaced on the car since new. It seems the original owner of the car meticulously maintained it, and drove it very often. If I remember correctly, the car has almost 220k miles on it.

Our goal is to bring this car back to driving shape. We don't particularly worry as much about "showroom quality" and focus more on a fun driver's car. Check out the pictures of some of the progress on bringing this car back to life. We try to make videos on a weekly basis. Feel free to also check out my 280ZX videos, if you're into that as well.

Why can't I sell this thing?

I've decided to sell my V-Strom. I posted it on Facebook marketplace.

Before I go further, I absolutely despise Facebook marketplace. I don't think I've ever had success selling anything on it. This motorcycle is following the same trend.

I checked all the local (Houston area) listings and decided to list it at $2500. I got a couple of $1000 offers and every kind of trade imaginable. I've been offered grandpa's 12 gauge shotgun from Sears, a 125cc MSF training bike, amd even tattoos. After a few weeks, I lowered the price to $2000. Now I get people asking "what's your lowest price" with the hope that I'll basically give it away. I've also had a few ask for my address, but disappear when I tell them we'll meet at a business.

Here's some info on the motorcycle:

2004 V-Strom 650

26k miles

Altrider crash bars

Sergeant seat

Tires, chain, sprockets, and brake pads have 1000 miles on them.

Runs perfectly

So has the motorcycle market just crashed? Or are V-Stroms just unsellable nowadays? Are there any alternative means of selling it?

Last week, we took my 1982 280ZX Turbo on the yearly "motorcycle trip." It sat in a garage for 20 years, and I started working on it in February with the goal of reviving it and getting it finished by the end of April for the trip. I cut it pretty close, with a few parts showing up on Wednesday, putting them on, and leaving on Thursday morning. I put 56 miles on the car before we started the trip, as I usually only made it 10 miles each time before finding something else wrong with the car.

The trip was 960 miles. We had tons of fun, and ended up not using a single tool or spare part on the car. I have documented the entire revival and just posted the trip video today on my YouTube channel.

Check out the channel, and feel free to ask me any questions.
