Who has experience with RPG maker? Is it worth it for someone who probably can't ever make his own assets?

I love the idea of making my own little JRPG. I'm a writer by hobby and the idea of writing a story that can be played is awesome. I'm also programming-savvy but not enough to fully create a game from scratch (at least the will isn't there anyway).

But even with RPG maker, I realize it's a lot of free use assets which makes me feel like it just won't be as special as I want it to be. I guess there is always hiring an artist to create some assets for you, but I'm not exactly that financially free.

So of those who have used RPG maker and actually successfully made something (regardless of actually selling it, more just in finishing a complete project), how was your experience with it and would you recommend it?

[No Spoilers] I just had a dream about Matt Mercer becoming an apocalyptic supervillain

It starts with Matt talking in a room. I don't know what but something makes him angry. He looks just as he does in real life, but he's rendered as an anime character. The world seems to all be rendered similarly.

He erupts in anger and disappears into a sand portal underground. Something comes out of the portal, and it looks like a skeletal monster that sort of resembles him. The monster starts to massacre everyone in the building he was in.

Matt then starts to monologue. I can't remember what exactly he says, but it's basically a speech about what he will do to the world and why the world deserves it.

There is then a montage of different places around the world where more of these Matt summoned monsters are appearing.

Some are giant and titan-like. Some are smaller. All of them seem to have the similar design of being able to extend their very sharp claws to become very long to pierce through people's hearts, trying to kill them in one go. He kills innocents, known heroes, and random people in castles, mountains, cities, forests.

Even villains (I guess in my dream these were established villains in this world) were protecting innocent people. There was a heartbreaking shot of this weird, giant caterpillar / cat hybrid monster that was thrusting itself in the way of the many Matt-summons' sharp claws, saving kids and adults alike. It kept doing this until it bled to death.

It felt like the last arc to some anime or game where someone has to stop Matt before he ends the world.

[TOMT] I have seen a meme of this animated dude looking at another character off screen as if he realized or is worried about something horrific the character did or is thinking

Looks like some kind of pixar or equivalent movie, the dude is dark skinned, maybe hispanic. I've been a little out of the animated movie scene and don't know where it's from.

It looks like he's worried or has disgust on his face, and I think he's looking at a child character.

Been living here for half a decade now and want to buy my own home. It's so expensive, that even though I can afford to purchase a home in one of these developments, I am wanting to see if building my own home and purchasing land would be even a little bit less costly (and not have the city tax and HOA you get from buying in town or close to the beach)

I found some decent land in Georgetown (I want to be close to Millsboro as much as possible for family and work) and it costing around 70k, means that if I can have a house built for around 200k all in all I'd be saving a lot of money compared to the 350k homes I am looking at.

But that's assuming it can be that cheap, and I can't seem to find any ballpark ranges or calculations without scheduling meetings with builders. So does anyone have any experience with this? And around how much did you spend per square footage? I understand there will be other expenses depending on where I'm building but this is just to gauge feasibility for now.
