Effect of Adaptive Cruise Control on mileage?
We've been told to optimize mileage on a hybrid by accelerating gradually, coasting when possible, and braking gently. After my first experience with Adaptive Cruise Control (in a new Camry LE), I wonder whether the car's strategy for dealing with traffic on a highway is likely to match or exceed that of a careful driver. Will ACC yield comparable mileage to driving without it, with all else held constant? Or does the computer prioritize returning to the set speed as soon as possible, with the result that fuel efficiency suffers a bit?
