Kirkwood Closure Back Up For Debate

Thoughts?

Prayers?

Pros in council meeting seemed to basically be no cars. Maybe more community engagement.

Cons that were brought up included accessibility for mobility challenged and elderly, library access, “pedestrian desert” aka hot tables with no shade not being used, shutting down for shutting down’s sake with no real plan to move to permanent infrastructure that supports the closure.

I’ll start by saying fundraising is great and helps people.

Now I’ll ask, isn’t this an insult to those they’re trying to help?

Have a fun family camp out night with activities, food and entertainment all in the guise of simulating what the homeless go through.

Want the real experience—maybe do it when the lows are below freezing. Want to show your commitment to the cause, donate and sleep outside when it’s below freezing. Idk what the term for cultural appropriation is when applied to pretending you’re homeless to feel better about yourself…but this would prompt the use of that.
